Pros

There was a really great team atmosphere, and they really do care about you succeeding. You're given a "mentor" type of person to train you and help you get promoted from entry level to account manager. There is no cap on commission.

Cons

How it works is when you're hired, you're given a "mentor." You have this mentor the whole time that you work at UMC. But that person also has a mentor and it keeps going. The way you get promoted is you get more people on your "team" and you keep getting promoted and eventually you get to "own your own business" which is all well and good if you don't value having a social life or any free time at all. Once you're promoted to "CEO" you're basically at the office 24/7 and you do not have a day off. They are very secretive about the work days and hours (thurs-mon "10:30"-7) until AFTER you accept the position. (I put 10:30 in quotes because they expect you there basically by 8 or even before then "if you're serious about the job.") They also are very misleading in the interview process about the logistics of the position. They tell you they go to "big retailers" because that's where the best clientele are. No. What they really do is stand in a Walmart or Best Buy and bother the poor people who are just trying to shop for groceries or whatever and try to sell them cable. You're sent to a different Walmart each day, you never know where you're going until after you've arrived at the office, so good luck planning evening activities in advance. They send you as far as Fayetteville for the day and do not reimburse for gas. And if you don't sign up enough customers for 3 weeks in a row, you're fired. I've witnessed people create fake sales just so they could post something for the day, and then cover it up later. They preach about opportunity and growth, but the fact of the matter is the only way you get to grow in this company is if you dedicate every waking moment to the job, and also are okay with cheating the system. All in all, this is basically a minimum wage job-- you're "guaranteed" 300$ a month for "gas and stuff" which no one can live on-- with absolutely NO BENEFITS and you lose your social life.

Dear Former Employee, Thanks for noticing how committed we are to helping someone succeed. We really appreciate the feedback left here. I'm also happy to hear you enjoyed having a mentor to help you along the way. Tells me we must be good at training. And you are right about the commission. There's no cap! I'm sure you earned exactly what you worked for, as all of our team does here. A few things I personally wanted to address. As a job seeker, I believe it is your responsibility to ask questions and find a position that fits you, just as a company will seek out individuals that fit with them. When it comes to the hours, we would be more than happy to answer anything you have questions about. Account Managers are full time, which is a consistent 40 hours a week. We would like to note that this position was accepted and not forced upon you. I realize this may feel different from other positions you have held that were part-time, allowing for more free time to do social activities. Also, as the CEO, I like to sleep in and enjoy my mornings working out or reading. I do not get to the office at 8:00 am. So it does seem strange that you would be asked to be there before me. In our job description, and on the second interview you went on, you were shown one of the retail locations and told multiple times big box retailers are our vehicle to the new customers our client wants. I am not sure where we lost you in that translation. Feel free to email me at coreyodom11@gmail.com with any other comments or set up a time to speak in person. Lastly, I am truly hoping you will grow in a position where you don't feel the need to lose your integrity or put in the bare minimum effort. It sounds like a lack of performance led someone you knew to compromising their character. My advice to you in your future career would be to say something when you see something in order to get any individual the help they need. As you stated before how dedicated we are to others success, I would have hoped you would take your leadership and have spoken up to help this person. It comes as no surprise to me that you are no longer with our team. Again, we believe every person should succeed provided they are willing to put in the work and make the necessary personal changes to achieving their goals. Best of luck and take care. Sincerely, Corey

Pros

The people here are great. Working with UMC has really broken me out of my shell and made me comfortable talking to people. Before working with UMC I didn't see myself being as outgoing as I am now or working in a retail setting and now I have no problem interacting with others in the office or our customers.

Cons

None. Absolutely zero. I couldn't think of a bad thing to say if I tried.

Pros

Fun people to work with

Cons

It's 100 percent comission. Here's why, you only get the "base" if you don't sell enough to make minimum wage in sales. Then they give you the minimum wage base ($270 a week after taxes), but take it back when you earn a little more. For example, say you only do one sale, and you have to be giving $170, the next week, it's taken out of your check. Also, the average person makes $350 to $555 a week before taxes.... long hours for low pay

Hey, Reviewer! Thanks for the feedback and pro you listed! We're always open to discuss pay in person, especially for current or future team members who have questions or need clarification. With that being said, we can confidently say that you weren't running payroll for the company and therefore wouldn't have a claim as to what the "average" pay is here at UMC Direct. Our Facebook and Instagram pages give lots of recognition to our client's top performers, all who receive checks for over $1000 weekly. While we recognize that your paycheck may have been within that $350-555 range, that is not a reflection of an entire group. We hope since you've been well. Take care! Sincerely, Corey
