Pros

They hired me. I felt safe to share my honest perspectives on things (proved to be mistaken). This was especially important, as I am a parent and sole income provider for my family. So, a feeling of safety meant just about everything other than a pay check (again, I was mistaken). The location - I love Boulder!

Cons

Though I was made to feel safe to share my honest perspectives, I absolutely was not. I was let go less than one week after I shared information that was damaging to certain individuals at this company. The only reason I was given for them letting me go was that they had planned poorly. First, the CEO was saying how I was too slow, but as I dug and asked a lot of questions, he quickly changed his tune to "we made a mistake and I am so sorry." Yes, you did make a mistake. I support my entire family and I trusted you erroneously. It is an on-boarding task for new employees to write a Glassdoor review, which is why you see so many, "I worked here less than a year." This removes any sense of autonomy in writing a review and in my opinion, it undermines the purpose of Glassdoor. They recently laid off four excellent employees, all of whom had already written reviews here that were super positive (makes sense, right?).

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Please allow us to address the concerns you've raised: The reason you felt safe while working at our organization is because open communication and collaboration are important values that we hold in very high esteem, even through challenging times. During your time as an employee at Truth Company, we really valued your honest perspective and opinions of other employees. Whether factual or not, every perspective brings an opportunity to learn and advance our processes around who we hire and when. Please be reassured that the unfortunate timing of your layoff was in no way an act of retaliation for anything you were sharing about other employees. The fact is that layoffs are simply an unfortunate part of running a business and they are never easy because as you’ve stated, oftentimes there are people directly affected by the downsizing who have been excellent employees. Like many small businesses that find success in the marketplace, TruthCo has had to navigate through complex periods of rapid growth, only to be followed by a reduction in the workforce. And while layoffs are always a last resort for our company, it is regrettably sometimes the only financially feasible course of action. Lastly, we understand your interpretation of what constitutes a powerful Glassdoor review, and we appreciate your feedback on our procedures. To add clarity, we invite all of our team members to leave an honest review after they have successfully completed a probationary period, and again after each year of tenure. If at any time someone feels they’ve posted an inaccurate review, they have the ability to delete their contribution. Furthermore, to protect the validity of any reviews posted to Glassdoor, at no time are employees coerced or incentivized to leave positive reviews. Nor is any type of consequence issued if an employee chooses to leave a negative review, delete a positive review, or if they simply choose not to leave a review at all. Of course, the timing and content of all Glassdoor reviews are at the sole discretion of the employee and therefore can occur at any time during their tenure with TruthCo.

Some Truth About The "Truth" Company

Pros

I got paid regularly and got good PTO. My co-workers were some of the best people I ever worked with.

Cons

Gather round for some much-needed truth about the Truth Company. Firstly, let's address how all the reviews are 5 stars, say almost the same words, and everyone who posted them is marked as having worked there for less than 6 months. After one month of working at the Truth Company, you are required to post a glassdoor review and have to have the review checked by HR. As you can imagine, these reviews are biased and not fully honest. Next, let me cover the day to day at the Truth Company. The environment was an environment of fear. Everyday people feared that would be their last day. This was only cemented by the fact that management would fire people, and then pretend like they never existed and never alert employees to what happened. This was only worsened by the fact that if people ever spoke out against the company or asked questions about the company they were also immediately fired. Lastly, one of the worst things with the Truth Company... management. Management refused to own up to their mistakes and would always blame employees and use it as a reason to fire them. Management would directly tell you one day to do something and then the next day turns around and say they never said that. When employees reached out asking for better communication they were publically shamed by management. This built a culture of employees being terrified of management and always looking over their shoulder. Management also had no trust in their employees and when experts said "we shouldn't do that" they would ignore them do it, and in the end every time the expert would be right. They all follow this insane diet, the Thermo diet. When I didn't want to eat this way I was shamed over my food.

A Lesson Learned

Pros

The hiring process was thorough, quick, and one of the best I’ve experienced to date. I was hired along with six other team members. I worked with some very talented, smart, and kind team members. I was promoted to one of the team leader positions within my first 90-100 days there.

Cons

The business is led by the whims of two YouTube personalities. They’ve built some great products but they’re stifling brand growth by second guessing their team and by keeping their hands in too many projects. Ego and a bro culture limit the potential of the company. Communication and long term planning are also areas for improvement.

Hi, thank you so much for reaching out and providing your feedback. There have been a lot of learning curves over this last year. Yes, some of the founders are on YouTube and because they have historical insights and intuitions that have brought the company to this point, we continue to make sure that each goal or idea they bring forth is recognized and evaluated. We are optimizing our operational system every month and based on employee survey results it keeps getting better and better. Regarding a "bro culture," while the founders are all male, and friendships have developed across the company over time, we also have women in leadership and we pride ourselves on making work ethic a guiding factor, along with a commitment to excellence and core values, to determine who continues to rise in the organization; many of our longest-standing employees are, in fact, female. With respect to "ego" in the workplace, we are looking for the wisdom in your feedback as we keep coming back to the passion that our team displays when debating all data-driven ideas. The key to success is ensuring that the best ideas always win and that requires having team members who can effectively communicate with clear logic. That type of communication can be difficult for some people, but it is a requirement in order to protect the integrity of the team’s planning. We are sorry if it was challenging for you to work here. Working in this organization isn't for everyone.
