Pros

With COVID, you now have the option of a hybrid work schedule. 3 days or however many patients you have coming in, which works if you don't have to come into the office frequently. Career ladder opportunities. SC1, 2, and 3. They give computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, they pretty much setup you up good with the technology aspect in order to do your job.

Cons

Management is in real need of restructure. But because of how much money LCCC has, no one bats an eye and the money and patients just keep rolling in. From previous employees, this has happened well over 10 years and its still continuing. LCCC management still cannot agree on how to run their department. During my time, there had been slides indicating that management doesn't even hold their own leadership accountable, but nothing changes. Yes they pay well, but management doesn't care. If you are a coordinator they will run you through 3-4 months of constant SOP readings and then once you start, they expect you to already know the in's and out's are because you've been reading mind numbing SOP's and then get blame for it if you do not remember them. Several other departments had warn me about LCCC with in UNC, but I choose not to listen because of how much money they were willing to give. I learned the hard way that the employee is not the 1st priority, and that you will have to be in the "clique" or else you will not get the same treatment as others. Managers know their jobs....but do not know how to lead. They will throw the HR policy and write you up if you do not produce the necessary work. Its very difficult to understand what the leadership wants because they are not involved with the staff and do not know the day to day routines. I have literally ran tests to see if maybe it was me that was in the wrong. I wrote up clinical notes, turned it into to my co-workers for approval, then to my manager and still got criticized for it. If you don't follow and be agreeable, they will run you out with constant negative feedback. During my time there, people were being hired and leaving even before reaching their year mark. The crazy thing is, is that UNC knows this and other departments know that LCCC cannot retain their staff....but management still doesn't take steps to understand why. Every step of the way was criticism and negative feedback from the manager. I had even ask what positive thing have I done.....they couldn't answer that. I understand that some jobs may not be for others or that some just can't handle it. Mind you I was a successful coordinator for 2 years perviously to the position at LCCC, so I did have experience....but even my ex director had said " DO NOT GO". But like I said, I choose not to listen and took that money bait. The most important thing as well is that you will be interviewed by just the directors and no one else. Which now I realize that that should have been a red flag. I didn't get interviewed by other staff, coordinators, or Regulatory team...nothing. Just 2 directors who had nothing to do with me after I got the job. I suggest that you ask around if you are at UNC about Lineberger and their history. Don't take my word for it, ask around, ask management about their turn over rate.

Pros

The research and clinical care provided by Lineberger and the cancer hospital is among the best anywhere, and it was rewarding to be a part of it.

Cons

Dysfunctional administration. The hierarchy takes precedence over everything else to the detriment of collaboration and morale. Lower level staff members are not valued, so turnover is high.
