Pros

Good admin support. Support staff is friendly and responds promptly to your inquiries.

Cons

I joined USTalk in late January, and up until now, I have only taught 2 classes, one in late January and one in mid February. It got frustrating after a while. Then I applied to one of their competitors which is a huge player in the Chinese market. My first week, I had 7 classes. My second week, I had 19 classes. And now, i'm getting 25 classes a week and looks like my booking will still go up even more over time. Funny thing was that at USTALK, I was not allowed to teach Trials because I "sucked" and "didn't know my stuff". Well, guess what, I was given so many trial classes to teach at this other company during my first week and I have received a ton of 5 star ratings from parents. As a result, I'm now getting more and more repeat students.

Blatant signs of racism and sexism

Pros

The salaried offered is very attractive. Also, the platform used in giving classes is quite user friendly.

Cons

Classes are mostly given to white male Americans. The discussion board for the company is filled with women and non-white males complaining about not receiving classes, while the white males boast of having over forty hours a week. I started noticing the trend and my suspicions were confirmed when I saw a message from a white male who was hired after me. I have been given almost no classes although making myself available full time, but he has a full schedule now. How is that possible?

UStalk Response

Hello. This is Christopher with UStalk Teacher Support. First, we appreciate your feedback. Discrimination is an often-overlooked issue in our industry, and we are actively trying to combat it. When hiring, it is our policy not to discriminate on the basis of race, gender, disability, or any other factor which does not have a direct impact on our teachers' teaching abilities. After a teacher has been hired, our Learning Support team recommends our teachers to our students and their parents based on teaching style and other professional qualities. Our students' parents, however, have the final say in class bookings. In response to your comment, we will be analyzing our teacher demographics and booking rates to gain further insight into this. Finally, we do take this issue very seriously, and we welcome any input on how we can make improvements for our teachers without sacrificing our customer experience. If you would like to get involved in the discussion, please let us know in an e-mail to Teacher Support. Thank you.
