Pros

If you're lucky enough to work from the Chicago office, you get to leech off of Uber's beautiful, open floor plan office space with great free lunches.

Cons

Buyer beware: this is not Uber. If you’re looking for a true tech environment or a pathway into Uber, stay far away from Uber Freight. The company was once great under Uber’s umbrella, but after the split and merger with Transplace, it completely lost its identity and stopped prioritizing the employee experience. Since then, it’s been in constant decline - budget cuts, worsening benefits, multiple rounds of layoffs, the dismantling of DEI and engagement programs, and a leadership team that ignores employee feedback. Leadership and HR weaponize their “employee behaviors” framework to silence dissent - if you raise concerns, you’re told you’re not “Thriving in Change.” The hierarchy is suffocating, transparency is nonexistent, and the culture is filled with buzzwords used to deflect accountability. Micromanagement is rampant, as every role is under scrutiny in anticipation of the next layoff. Pay and bonus structures are poor compared to industry standards, and benefits continue to erode each year.

Pros

Initial salary isn’t bad but everything else is a nightmare. There’s no real way to close deals and earn commission because everything is completely decentralized, disorganized, and with no sense of urgency. Everyone is working in different directions with competing initiatives and goals. They have a real identity crisis and their focus is on the wrong things. Unless they can find a way to bridge the gap between being overpriced and providing unreliable capacity I don’t see how it’s going to work.

Cons

-Constant change and iteration with no clear endgame and no focus on fixing the root cause of the problem. -While the “uber” name can lend itself to booking meetings, they’re not price competitive in any capacity or tech mode compared to the mark so unless they can get there it’s impossible to close deals as you’re 17% over market on average. -They’ll tell you they’re a “end to end” supply chain partner but the reality is they’re not good at any one thing especially not FTL. -Leadership and sales team is basically just all old CH guys they brought into try and become CH so unless you align with that then don’t bother. One particular manager in this segment is the worst I’ve ever worked for and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Pros

Used to get Uber equity Used to have cheap health insurance Once upon a time, had a great startup energy

Cons

No more equity Health insurance premiums went from $18 a month to $400. Good management was replaced by unpleasant people. Various perks were discontinued such as personal development spend, uber credits, equity. Was remote, then hybrid, now, can barely work from home
