Pros
The majority of the students are engaging and really caring and wonderful; they make the teachers feel respected and like they are genuinely giving something back by teaching them. The Academic Director and Co-Director are wonderful to work with. They were by far the best bosses I've ever had in terms of the positive reinforcement and encouragement they offered their teachers. It is an amazingly collaborative environment between the teachers and the Academic Coordinator team.
Cons
There's an obvious lack of organization and communication between the owner of the school and Admins and teachers. Owner is just looking to make money off of the students and doesn't care at all about the well-being of the teachers or anyone she employs. Classrooms are overcrowded, students consistently fail exams but still progress to the next class, and owner constantly wants to implement curriculum changes that make no sense. While she did start paying holidays, there is no sick pay or benefits of any kind for anyone that works for her. If you're full time, you'll teach 6 classes 4 days a week and receive 2 hours of paid planning time; she wants teachers to supplement the lessons, but that is not nearly enough time to plan engaging and interesting lessons if you're only planning during the two hours of paid time. You have to teach at least 5! classes to get paid just an hour of planning pay. It's a joke. Also, if you're looking for professional development, don't bother. That is also a joke. "Presentations" at meetings once a session and a certificate provided to teachers for attending the "professional development sessions." The school is run like a resort, where the guest (student) is always right and the teachers (employees) are scrutinized and mistreated. It is very difficult to get the students to speak in English during some classes; there is no repercussions for them not passing or speaking in other languages during class, and they know this. They are paying customers and the school and owner completely caters to this, rather than ensuring they take learning English seriously.
