Pros

Because the company is a small business, managers have direct contact with their employees and can coach them and help them to grow into their roles. I experienced frequent coaching, both as informal training sessions and as formal employee evaluations. I was able to develop in my roles over the year I worked at Ultra Clean. The smaller size means that all of the employees know each other, so communication can be clear and direct. The sales department can talk to production, marketing, procurement, accounting, or shipping quite easily. Changes can be more easily implemented as the chain of command is shorter. There are fewer hoops to jump through to get things accomplished. Ultra Clean is ISO Certified, which means there is a plan and procedure for every work action. The machines are built to high-quality standards, keeping in mind the customer's demands and timeline. The culture in the company is quite familial- employees are treated like family by the company owners. The workday ends at 4:30, so commuters get a head start to beat traffic, which helps with work/life balance.

Cons

As the other review states, this is a small business with less than 50 employees, so growing pains are natural as the organization increases in size and figures out what works best. A smaller company may mean less room for advancement opportunities, but as the company develops so do responsibilities and opportunities. The company offers health, vision, dental, and life insurance policies, but they are slightly pricier than a larger company might offer. There are no retirement plans offered.

Pros

Due to the company’s size, employees and managers have direct and constant contact. This allows for great training and development opportunities for employees. From day one, I knew what my supervisor expected of me, where to go to for assistance, and what the scope of my job was. I was directly trained by a lead who provided coaching, training, and encouragement. My manager was always available when I needed anything from him. Training was hands on and continuous. Over time in my position I was gradually given more responsibilities, which came with increased compensation. The relatively small size of the company means that all employees know each other. This makes it feel more like a family than a company. Each department has contact with each other on some level weekly, if not daily. This is helpful in preventing and working around any miscommunications and helps in meeting customer needs. Of all the jobs that I have had, this has provided the best work-life balance. Two breaks each day plus a lunch break, as well as ending the work day at 4:30pm, allows workers to avoid some common causes of stress.

Cons

Due to its size, there are relatively few opportunities to advance. However, the company is growing, so opportunities do emerge. The benefits offered are more expensive than other employers that I have had and no retirement options were available during my time at the company.
