There are different types of data managers in the university. it will depend on where you end up. I have seen some data managers who work completely remote.

Cons

For example, I ended up in a lab, where I am the only data manager, rest alla re PhDs and postdocs, who doesnt understand database and data management, including the Head. Then its difficult.
