Pros

Gain experience working with all aspects of the ASIC flow and will learn quickly if you're willing. Lots of opportunity for career advancement, both within the company and at competitors who will pay big to bring you over once you accumulate enough experience. Open, young, friendly environment with a laidback startup vibe.

Cons

Thrown on to real projects almost immediately, with little to no formal training. The training that is provided, is not very useful or relevant to the job functions, and are mostly theoretical. You'll be expected to pick most things up on your own, or by asking colleagues who for the most part have been there barely longer than yourself. Long hours. Once a project hits "tapeout mode" project leads, managers and their manager expect the team to work long hours, weekends and even through holidays. Expect to easily average ~60+ hours a week for about 2 months. Most managers, although there are a few good ones, care little about promoting a healthy work/life balance. Will rarely ever receive praise or commendation for doing something well, but will almost always get your shortcomings called out. Company runs lean, with small teams assigned to each project, and compensation is not even close to fair for the amount of work you're expected to do. Nearly everyone with no experience, starts as an intern, where they pay you even less (~2000 monthly) yet still expect you to perform the same duties as a full time employee and stay late. Attrition at this company is a huge problem. Most of the talented engineers leave this company after about a year or two, and land much better paying jobs, which leaves the inexperienced engineers to step up and take over their responsibilities, more often than not much earlier than they're ready to.

Exploitative Management, Failed Company

Pros

There are none. There used to be significant potential, but that was squandered and thrown aside. Many many attempts at intervention and improving communication and reform were for naught.

Cons

- They harbor upper an management individual who contributes almost nothing and has abused and harassed engineers until all the talent left in frustration and anger. - The rest of the upper management either doesn't care about the well-being of their engineers, can't afford to care, or choose to simply close their eyes to the situation. - They have lied and will continue to lie to younger and inexperienced engineers to make bad career decisions for the sake of the company. - There's very little communication from management to engineers, which is ridiculous given how small the company is. - The company has never fared well, and has no real future. Pay was always low, even after mass layoffs and promises to increase pay. They only secured contracts by underbidding decent opposition since they underpay drastically and used to squeeze ungodly hours from their engineers. Uniquify has a sour reputation in the ASIC industry. - Work conditions are only better recently due to a lack of work. When there was plenty of work, conditions were bad. Engineers had their relationships with girlfriends/spouses strained or broken, health was not maintained at all, and stress was high. - All the experienced engineers that were willing to teach newcomers and build teams are gone. There's not much opportunity to learn enough to secure a strong enough resume. They don't even have real IT or HR support anymore (they all quit).

Pros

- Good start for a fresh graduate - Few of the mangers train the new hires very well - Hands on experience across all phases of the chip design - Diversified culture and young people

Cons

-Internship: This company picks young and fresh graduates out of school as interns and there is a possible conversion to a full time after 6 months. During the intern phase people tend to put in the same amount of time as a full time employee. This can go till 3/4 A.M in the morning or some times all night. No jokes ask any intern that is currently doing his internship or any other engineers who are on a full time( from internship) they 'll let you know more about this. -Full time: Firstly there is no work life balance at this place. The management expects you to put in crazy hours,. The day is so long at this place that it continues till 8/9 P.M on an average and some times all nights too. It is not only during the tape-out time but the late night thing happens through out the design cycle. Mangers call you at weird hours in the night and also on weekend . There are meetings happening on weekends and they expect people to show up on weekends. Some managers compel to finish over the weekend and they make a big fuss out of it if people don't work on weekends. This is the biggest complain here that there are no weekends for yourself but most of the time you end up working for the company. if you want weekends for you and your family then definitely this is not the place that you would look for. -Management : Most of the managers here are good. Few of the managers do take care of their team's well being and the amount of time they put in but this is rarely seen among other managers. There is one Sr Manger here who yells at people for silly reasons, looses temper quickly, uses indecent language ( uses F words ) . He doesn't know how to treat people with respect. He grills and yells at people in the meetings. He pretty much lost his entire team but still nothing seems to be improving. He is the main reason/motivation for people to quit. ( All the engineers who report to him tend to leave after certain time ). Though the management is aware of the attitude of this guy they seem to be helpless because he is one of the senior most guys in the management .He is a tough guy to deal with.
