Horrible place to work

Pros

Team members are friendly, good location.

Cons

Management often belittles their own teams as well as their peers. Feedback is not welcome nor is it ever addressed or accepted positively. Overtime is often expected and underpaid if not paid at all. No room to progress as management does not trust their team or provide any sort of career building opportunities. I was let go because they refused to accommodate my medical condition which required me to work from home 2-3 times a month even though I demonstrated working from home while using sick days, they still would not accommodate my condition.

How can this company still exist

Pros

Highly intelligent staff, a lot of bright people work there. A good place to learn a lot about the industry.

Cons

Upper management are always stepping over each others toes. No one wants to own issues. Things stay in the backlog for sometimes years. People don't stay for too long. They don't really fix their product and clients will eventually leave. Only then will the CEO see the light.

Still struggling with the basics aft 20 years

Pros

There are many very smart and friendly employees, and most are working very hard. Management is willing to try new ways of doing things. The office space is nice, in a converted old building. Free fruit and beverages, employee-led activities.

Cons

Employee turnover is very high for a company of that size and age. Management does not seem to either recognize the problem, or if they do, understand what needs to be done to fix it. After more than 20 years in the business, it seems that the company is still struggling to understand and implement the basics of good employee management and development. There is no system in place to properly review employee performance and salary increases, and to foster personal and professional development. There is a lack of communication and sharing of knowledge and expertise between groups that makes developing large projects challenging. There is not enough staff to plan for and execute significant product improvements beyond the immediate must-do projects, and upper management does not seem to consider this a high-enough priority to dedicate resources to it. It always feels like we are playing a losing game of catch-up.
