Pros

If you are poking around for the reputation of U of R, then rest assured that the faculty are some of the best.

Cons

Very slow to adapt to technology. Top level management have been sitting in their positions for years--there is a limit to how far you can advance in this company. CEO and President Seligman is running the whole show into the ground. Between gentrifying the ward and his pet projects (ex. he bought a ferry for river tours; had to sell it after 2 years), he needs to go SOON. Management is eager to fire you; they document every interaction and you're screwed if you don't submit letters documenting your perspective too.

High turnover & zero interest in retaining staff

Pros

Generous budget for professional development, conferences, office furnishings, software and new technologies, pretty much money for anything except staff salaries, especially support staff who actually do the work to keep the place running.

Cons

More concerned with saying they're one of the biggest employers in the area, instead of actually paying all those employees a competitive living wage. Little to no transparency about wages and salary bands across comparable positions. Don't even breathe the word "union." No interest in retaining staff unless you are at least at a director level, regardless of strong track records of high performance and meeting/exceeding your goals. Ridiculously low pay for the workload and responsibilities, despite years of dedicated service. Every year I made less and less with inflation. I worked for a hospital and qualified for sliding scale fees for my medical bills because I made so little. Ironic. Having employees pay $400/year just to park on campus is unacceptable. Constant expectation to go above and beyond without meaningful incentives. Pizza parties are not paying our bills.
