A difficult place to work.

Pros

The location is great and the coworkers were amazing. Because it was a small firm, it was easy to get certain things done (like getting a check cut for a vendor, etc).

Cons

Work-life balance is not well-supported. Extensive micro-managing. Policies can change at the whim of the owner at any time. High stress. It was hard to get rid of non-performing subs. There was a general lack of trust. Employees got thrown under the bus if mistakes happened, whether or not they performed the mistake.

Pros

The entire time I worked for UPP I was challenged both intellectually and professionally to work my hardest and achieve positive growth. I appreciated the one-on-one attention I received, including mentorship meetings and professional goal setting, because it showed that the company was invested in my development along with that of the firm’s. The team member culture at UPP is phenomenal. I would recommend working for Urban Planning Partners if you are motivated, enjoy problem solving and working with a strong group of intelligent people. The firm rewards hard work and is deeply invested in their local community.

Cons

With a small but fast-growing firm, there was not always enough time to work on projects I was most interested in. The expectation was to catch on quickly with a variety of tasks of which many I did not have previous experience doing. This was challenging, but also allowed for significant growth in a short period of time.

Pros

Firm gets cool work due to limited local consulting field

Cons

Crossing of personal and professional boundaries. No HR department so nowhere to turn for mediation of issues or unprofessionalism of management. Unprofessional is putting it lightly.
