Pros

fair pay.. flexible work day

Cons

This company is known industry wide for having a revolving door of employees.. both by choice, and because the owners don't value their employees.. They use them for as much information as they can pluck from you, and then turn you out on your butt! No consideration of what they do to families, or career paths. These people lack ethics.. Your job responsibilities are ever changing! They have no vision or plan. The owner reminds me of a dog from "UP" that sees a squirrel and constantly changes his thought. Their turnover is atrocious! They hire and fire constantly! Beware.. they love you one day and you're out the next! If you are not part of their 'community' you are expendable. If you want to be well paid, but out of a job within 6-11 months of being hired.. consider this company! If you are looking for long term growth and to be a valued team member.. keep looking!! STAY AWAY

Pros

You can choose what times work for you, to come in and leave. leave early on Fridays. Some very few friendly co-workers that will be the only thing keeping you sane. The woman at the front desk is lovely.

Cons

It is a very isolating work place, with a big brother atmosphere, you can not even listen to music without it being pointed out.. This company sounds so good on paper, but unfortunately it has to be the most Toxic, Negative, belittling, unsupportive work place I have ever encountered. Everyone is looking out for only themselves and if you are in their way they will bulldoze right over you, REGARDLESS of your position. I have watched VP's get berated by the CEO, which everyone (very outspokenly) detests. There is no support offered to the employees when it comes to training; It was obvious that I was no to be trusted with the work load given, because it was assumed I couldn't preform tasks, that SURPRISE ! I was not trained for. Almost all of the employees around you are negative, either because, they themselves, do not wish to be there, or just simply have a negative, elitist, attitude that is not grounded in anything. My direct manager on many occasions has very loudly belittled me in front of my co-workers for asking simple, but necessary questions in order to complete tasks, that you are often not given full information on. The very obvious nepotism, is unfortunately never addressed, and as it is a family owned company, it will remain so. I have seen (on multiple occasions) designs being stolen and ripped DIRECTLY from the stores, and scanned, in order to sell the design to other companies. This is unfortunate as there seem to be many talented people that do not get to showcase their talent. When it comes to snow days, vacation, and sick days, What. A. Mess. Even when the state has implemented a state of emergency, the company over looks the safety of their employees to simply get another work day in, and in the occasion that you do choose to stay home on a snow day or state of emergency YOU ARE FORCED TO USE A PERSONAL DAY. This is also along the same blasé attitude they take with COVID. On many occasions they have hidden the fact that MULTIPLE people in the office were infected. You are not allowed to work from home simply because, the CEO does not believe in it. lunch is 30 mins long and often taken at your desk while working. Insurance is very high, for very basic coverage. Those 4.0 ratings have to be falsified as I have never encountered an employee with such an outlook; it is unfortunate to have to write such a scathing review, but in no way shape or form has any of this been exaggerated.

We would like to address some of your comments. VCNY Home is known for being a highly collaborative workplace where employees of all levels and departments are encouraged to work, learn, and grow together. That’s why we are a little surprised to hear our workplace described as isolating or as a place where no training is available. Our employees can work directly with a leadership team who has over 30+ years in the business and learn the ins and outs of the home textile industry. It’s a place where self-starters and those who are hungry to gain knowledge and develop new skills thrive. Regarding your comments on our Covid response, we have gone to great lengths to protect our employees in the office, including providing free face masks (mandatory for unvaccinated employees), sanitizing stations throughout the office, plexiglass partitions, and distancing workspaces in accordance with CDC guidelines. As recommended by the CDC, we notify all VCNY Home employees when there is a confirmed case in our office. We do this to ensure a safe work environment for everyone while still protecting the confidential medical information of any infected individuals. While we are disappointed to hear you were unhappy at VCNY Home, we know many employees love it here. We have many employees who have been with us for 10+ years. We also have quite a few employees who have left VCNY Home and then return because they weren’t as happy at other companies as they were at VCNY Home.

Pros

Friday Hours- you get to leave at 2pm

Cons

Everything 1, No HR support, since this is a family run business HR really can not do much. What the family decides happens. Example you do not get snow days or sick days, even if the state of NJ has called a state of emergency, Everyone still has to go in and if you do not, you loose a pay day. Company feels as tho they are paying their workers to work. 2. Forget about development- the company does not hold or conduct reviews, nor has promoted an employee or provided raise opportunities. The job you are hired for is what you get, UNLESS they decide to move you randomly to a different role without consent . Or they will add additional work to your current role due to the large volume of people leaving the company to cover their work. Forget a raise if that happens too. 3. No leadership or structure- this is an ever changing door, who reports into who, what your role really is. There is no real structure and people do not hold responsibility to work. In addition to no structure the leaders here do whatever they want based on their current feelings. They are bullish and NOT professional at ALL. poking fun of other employees, belittling them and screaming at them across the room is a daily occurrence. 4. Whatever the Owner Toby likes moves forward with- Do not come here thinking you will work for a company that is driven by numbers but purely emotions. 5. Disrespect Towards Designers- If your a designer looking to design forget it, this place simply goes to Europe and other US Homestores to copy all of their designs or buys artwork and slaps it on a CAD. They do not challenge you and if the owner doesn't like it he will let you know how horrible you are. 6. Lack of Benefits- This company provides the bare min insurance opportunity at a very high price. Obama care is essentially the same price. Many employees can not afford their benefits.

We believe feedback from this post is an opportunity to add clarity to our company policies and culture. Toby and Joe Cohen have built an industry-leading company. As with all companies, owners and executives set the final direction, along with the appropriate policies that are right for the organization. VCNY Home is proud to employ over 250+ employees. This requires organizational structure and accountability. We take great pride in providing gainful employment to our employees. It is a responsibility that our owners and leadership team take very seriously and to heart. We offer many benefits/perks including but not limited to: • A full benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401K, life insurance and flex spending accounts. We remain committed to sharing the ever-rising healthcare cost with our employees in a responsible and fair manner. • Early dismissal on Fridays at 3 pm. • We believe in promoting and providing financial raises and rewards based on merit. We have an open-door policy on development and growth. As a company we are focused on progress and don’t believe a formal performance review process would benefit our organization at this time. We believe in setting regular goals, praising and rewarding on an ongoing basis. • We offer accrued vacation time. This may be used at the sole discretion of employees. We believe that employees are best at making the decisions that impact their personal lives. For example, during snow storm emergencies, we offer the flexibility for employees to make the best decisions for themselves, including staying home, utilizing their accrued vacation time, arriving late and/or leaving early. Thank you for your feedback. We wish much success to all our former employees.
