Pros

Via has a long history in San Antonio , therefore provides a safe and secured job. Via has many different departments and the benefits and experience greatly varies. I worked in Customer service. The work is easy and you work in a comfortable office environment.

Cons

Poor work life balance as a result of a hierarchy based solely on tenure. New talent does not adapt well because of this. Whereas other companies have incorporated a tenure-work productivity to create more balance, Via has not nor attempt to address the issue. Manager inundated with projects leaves little time for anything else, except perhaps when identifying opportunities in an employee's quality of work. The department has no established "culture" and suffers from a negative station of "US" versus "THEM" being a major detriment to morale. Despite real or assumed, these issues were never addressed. Consequently, it has eroded the employees trust and confidence with VIA. Customer service executive management rarely has a presence, and the department lacks support and leadership. In my experience, executive management always maintained a Prescence with call center staff. Via unfortunately lacks this type of engaged leadership in Customer Relations. On one occasion, an employee expressed how they often felt left out or unimportant in the organization. Via can be an excellent employer for customer relations staff, but the organization largely does not place importance on the department and that is very unfortunate because customer relations have direct contact with customers whom they engage with regularly, this was pointed out when employees were told we were required to report to work during the pandemic because we were still “essential” but refused to supply anyone with a mask because we were not directly in contact. (so not essential enough) Additionally, Customer Relations and Via as a whole lack serious resources at no fault to them. Therefore, employee amenities are especially limited, no cafeteria and no covered parking. However, parking is free.

Pros

Good pay, flexible hours, some good benefits like medical. Many of the staff are friendly. Union helps out employees when there are issues.

Cons

There is a high turnover of recruiting part timers because of the crazy work schedules provided by operations. Part timers do not really have flexible hours and do not get paid 1.5 pay working holidays. Also no vacations. Due to seniority PT get the crappy routes to operate. In order to get a good job with VIA you must sacrifice 5 years of life to gain seniority and must be full time. VIA states seniority for FT recruitment, yet there are exceptions where some down on the seniority list are considered first for full time. No consideration for employees with education, there are clicks in the HR hiring process; yet VIA will pay you a 2 month course so you could cover for all the leftovers hours/routes Full timers do not want. A lot of resignation due to high stress, less family time and consideration of veterans, and educated people because, as they say, they hire within through seniority, yeah right!

Pros

Open to diversity, very public image aware, front line employees are wonderful to work with. It is a growing agency and has great potential to be a great agency.

Cons

Senior leadership is overly steeped in "diversity" at the mid to upper levels to the extent of excluding qualified talent. Thus, a group-think has evolved where one cannot speak out freely and without repercussion. Additionally, there is too much concern about image to the detriment of making quality progress (Form over Substance).
