Pros
I met some great people and still keep in touch with them. None still work there because people do not stay longer than a year. Was a stepping stone to a job I actually wanted
Cons
The irony of this company is they preach all kinds of lofty liberal values, while running a BIM sweat shop in Manilla. One of the owners is from this country so he is essentially exploiting his own people for profit. -there is no standard location for contracts because they do not want the modelers to see how little they are being paid relative to contracts. This causes multiple versions of contracts to float around and causes a TON of issues. Billing is always a disaster. its unreal how unrefined this process is after 10 years. A substantial amount of fee erosion is incurred just trying to figure out billing. ASANA -Asana is the primary communication tool. Use of this is terrible. Sure, there is technically a template, but it is not really followed. 5 projects will use it 5 different ways. Also people quit all the time so when these jobs are inherited, you have to spend a substantial amount of time figuring out what is going on. -You will spend hours (after your regular shift) writing explicit instructions in Asana and will MAYBE get half of it back correctly. We were told several times by leadership to expect about 60% accuracy from Manilla MANILLA -you will get modelers stolen from your project and then blamed for not delivering on time. -There does not appear to be much QC in the hiring process in Manilla. I have encountered modelers that did not understand industry basics such as RCP & what "on center" means. I have had to explain to modelers that they need to be sure they are not creating a new clash when resolving a clash. its absolutely exasperating. -often Manilla people do not have sufficient English skills to communicate. They just say "yes" to everything. -frequently you will be up till they late hours of the night trying to straighten out Manilla to avoid a mess in the morning. It is really awful for quality of life. It makes planning a social life impossible. -Manilla gets substandard machines. Often their computers lock up due to the nature of the work. I have had a simple model export take them hours. IT & HARDWARE -VT cheeps out on EVERYTHING. frequently you will have to work with student or free trials for licenses. -You cannot install your own software. instead you have to put in a ticket. Its obnoxious. So if you need a plugin ASAP, you may have to wait hours or even days. -You will not get a suitable computer for BIM work. IT will impede your ability to work. CULTURE -A colleague described this place best: "Jesse/Kyle/Grady/Flora/Anton/Danielle act like they are in a club. But its kind of a weird club you don't really want to be a part of." -Kyle Hudson is one of the worst people I have ever worked for and has an absolutely reprehensible personality. Very condescending. I frequently felt disrespected. -These people claim to be leading the industry...they cant even lead themselves to a decent process that works.
