Pros

The technicians, not the Engineers, are great to work with.

Cons

Working @ Vartek was a nightmare. There is no work life balance. You are ordered to work 7 days a week. The 401K is discretionary upon management which means that they can choose whether or not to put in, into your 401 K for Technicians. I am pretty sure that the standard for management is not the same. Everything is on the hush hush and there is a general disrespect for Workstation and Network Technicians across the board. And the pay is just awful. Definitely not the norm of the industry.

Pros

Working in a school district provides the opportunity to work with all kinds of different technologies, which in my opinion will make you a more rounded tech. When at company meetings, the Holiday Inn Express had a great breakfast. They will pay for half of an iPad, laptop, or other tablet if you purchase one (up to a certain amount).

Cons

I have never worked for a company where 95% of the employees turned over every year. Terrible communication. Terrible training for employees when a new system is implemented. I was a tech and they switched to a new ticketing system and I never received any training on how to use it. Everything that was purchased for the district was the cheapest of cheap computer systems, network switches, etc... CEO of the company told us to our faces at one of the company meetings, that all he cares about is money. This is proven again and again by compensation, equipment purchased, tools to do our job efficiently, etc... Current President of the company was involved with the Miami-Jacobs career college when it lost accreditation for a program it offered. Students were graduating with degrees that turned out to be worthless. Google search Darlene Waite Scams. Company meetings feel like a sales pitch to the new employees on how great Vartek is. Nothing meaningful ever comes out of those meetings, and to top it off they pull all of the resources away from their clients. Fired all of the workstation techs and replaced them with "Classroom Technology Coaches". Nothing against the CTC's but they have education backgrounds, not technical backgrounds. Schools hire Vartek to support their technology......if no one has technical backgrounds then how is that going to happen? Before you get hired you have to take pointless personality tests. Health benefits are awful. Compensation is NOT competitive. They preach a life/work balance, but that is not the case, especially if you are salary. If this is being read by a potential client of Vartek, please make sure that you have a district employee that has a strong background in IT. If not, Vartek will take advantage of your district. They will say that you need this and that, when in reality you don't need anything. Very slim chance of advancing even though they tout it as a great place to grow and move up.

Pros

The district you work for you will enjoy and the people there.

Cons

Its hard to choose where to start. The team I worked with started off with good management but a constant turnover staff. The company had a hard time keeping anyone on board. After several years working there I would poke and prod at moving up in the company. The little advancements were just enough to make you feel important but never significant. The overwhelming expectation will collapse down on you. Just when you think you are at a good position too you will realize how much the company just truly doesn't care about you. Combine your overwhelming expectations with being underpaid and throw that together with management who treats each employee with zero respect, you have this company.

Vartek Response

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. It is unclear whether you worked at VARtek full-time for less than a year or over several years as later written in the the cons. Ultimately, your manager and you are working on Individual Development Plans to determine what VARtek can help you with your professional development funds and the plan you will follow to advance your career through education, on the job training, and the earning of certifications. It seems that we can as a company improve the career path system and set better expectations regarding advancement and timelines. Your feedback will help us accomplish this. You stated that you had little advancements but that they were not significant enough to meet your needs. We absolutely care and focus on career growth but it appears that we can improve in our expectation alignment. Thank you, again, for your feedback. It will help us continue to improve in these areas. We wish you the best in your future endeavors and hope that what you did learn while with the company, that you leave us stronger than you came.
