      Disappointing and Lack of Supportive Leadership. One of the worst teams I have ever worked with.

      Pros

      Good company events, including happy hours on Thursdays, monthly birthday lunches, and really enjoyable Halloween celebrations. Jeff, the co-founder, is a great person who genuinely cares about the company and its mission, though unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to have visibility into all the toxic managers impacting the culture.

      Cons

      Nepotism: Favoritism is rampant, with promotions and opportunities often based on personal connections or shared ethnic backgrounds rather than merit. Toxic Managers: Upper management frequently entrusts toxic managers with significant responsibilities, creating a hostile work environment for many. Lack of Support: Individual contributors often feel isolated, with little to no backing from VP-level or senior leadership. Feedback Discouraged: Constructive feedback from employees, especially those in non-leadership roles, is not welcomed or acted upon, stifling growth and innovation.

      Lack of Diversity and Extreme Nepotism is disappointing…

      Pros

      - Good Benefits- above average match to 401k compared to the industry and not gate-kept by time employed, standard equity sharing plan, yearly bonus, yearly equity awards for performance, and flexible health plans. - The founder is a wonderful person who is very passionate about the company’s vision.

      Cons

      - The departments are very different in how they operate. There is no consistency between the groups- better hope you don’t join the “bad department”. A lot of the cons personally shared are with a specific department that I was a part of: - A lot of favoritism and nepotism: This is a company where a lot of the hires are “referred”. A lot of the interns and contractors are relatives of or connected with someone else in the company. A lot of the FTE are as well, which can cause a lot of conflict of interest or groupthink in a field where critical thinking should be number one. - These “referrals”, especially in the same department or reporting to one another, (Yes they allow you to refer or recommend the person under you- can you believe that?) cause an enormous issue in terms of integrity which can make the work environment turn hostile and political. For example: Because two direct reports know each other previously, they can be disingenuous and push an agenda. - Upper management is not aware that this is an issue, they don’t even see an issue with someone “recommending” or “referring” their own direct reports. - The lack of diversity within the team due to the “referrals” or “recommendations” are disgusting.

      Pros

      Kindness first culture that is a highlight of the employee experience. This is noticeable in the halls, just passing people to say hi and in the more programmatic aspects of the organization (company all hands, company events, scientific exchanges, lunch and learns). Can't forget about Thursday happy hours. Steady Leadership. Our C-suite is incredibly approachable, takes the time to share with staff the vision and direction, and helps keep everyone motivated. Novel science! Cell-free. Great momentum, shared drive among colleagues. Medical, dental and vision are covered 100%. Unlimited PTO, and additional days off during the year (August Fridays)! Location is awesome. Building is beautiful. Gym, restaurant, outdoor bar. Also pretty centrally situated within San Carlos.

      Cons

      Vaxcyte is smaller in size, with big goals. Trying to get a lot done at the moment.
