Pros

I have worked at Veatch Carlson for 5+ years. There are numerous long-term employees at this firm, many of them 15+ years. While no workplace is flawless, the following benefits will keep me at Veatch for years to come. We still have a 7 hour work day with a full hour lunch which leads to a superfast work day, state of the art computer system recently installed shortly after relocation to brand new offices, located close to all modes of public transportation including doorstop DASH service, flexible work times are arrangeable, some great co-workers (unfortunately lazy people everywhere), introduction training for all legal assistants, health benefits, vacation, sick days and most importantly management and an office manager who cares and takes the time to help if one takes the time to ask.

Cons

there are not enough places to walk for lunch, however more and more places are opening up each day due to the new lofts being built in the area. Most of us bring our own lunch anyways and there is a Starbucks right across the street which is a plus!

Pros

Literally none, unless you count a paycheck.

Cons

The morale at this firm is so low and the oppression is so palpable that it has a 95 F dewpoint. Everyone wants to leave. Look them up online and search for the former scandals, whether it's bagel sale fraud or being fined millions for misappropriation of employee 401k contributions. Many of the attorneys look like they should have retired 10 years ago. They have decades of experience, and instead they're treated like first year associates, working 12 hours days, afraid of their own shadows, I suspect because they need a check. They require everyone, even attorneys with considerable experience and former judge pro tems, to check-in and out every day with the secretary. They spy on you. They check your deposition transcript to see what time your deposition ended because they don't trust you to be an adult with work ethic. It is a true mill workhouse, emphasizing quantity over quality. Adults are treated like children and it feels like a prison. Do not come here unless you are an inch from starvation and homelessness, and need the check like it's your last breath of air.
