I’ll start by saying, in the beginning I was very excited to start working here but within the first week, I realized it was not as advertised. I knew it was B2B sales so I understood that I would be spending a lot of my days driving around. But on my third day there, we had to drive 2 hours away to our territory. The work day is advertised as 8-5 but I did not get home until 8pm those days I was out there. As you move up in the company your days begin to extend even longer, 7:30am-5 and then 7am-5 (that’s if you got back from your territory on time). You’re also expected to have 1 on 1 meetings with your coworkers every day during your off time from work. So what was supposed to be an 8 hour day quickly becomes 12+ hours. There was zero work life balance and my mental health and relationships suffered because of it. It was purely commission based and you were not compensated for miles on your car or given a gas card. So if there was a day you drove 1+ hour to your territory (not including the commute to and from work) you would basically be paying to go to work. You don’t get sick time, you don’t get vacation days, there no formal way to request time off and they guilt you for taking time off because it affects company production. My final straw was when I had a death in my spouse’s family, I asked them if i could have a week off to travel to the funeral and be there for my spouse. At this time I also expressed how burnt out I was from the job and that I felt I needed the time off to benefit me as well. They were unwilling to give me this time off because at that time the partner in the company was trying to hit production numbers so that he could promote and open his own office. I was just a number to them. I put my foot down and said that I needed it off for to be there for my spouse and my own well-being. During my time away, I realized how much freer I felt and how badly the job was truly affecting me. I decided that I was never going back there and let them know I would be quitting. Long story short, this job is not what it seems and I would steer clear. No work life balance, no compensation for gas or miles, they only see you as a number, and there are no benefits until you get to the highest level of the company.
