Awful Management

Pros

How a place can change in only a few short years. One of the best places I've worked and now by far the worst. Change in management in the last few years. Generally the workers are a great bunch of people and make it bareable.

Cons

Management. They're disconnected from reality and from staff.

Pros

Modern offices with a lovely view of the harbour.

Cons

A culture of fear and blame reigns supreme at VicTrack. The executives bully and intimidate their personnel, and the organisation is divided into warring factions that are engaged in continual finger-pointing and blame shifting. During the time I was employed at VicTrack the organisation was ruled (to its immense detriment) by the Legal Team due to ‘probity concerns’ arising from the unscrupulous behaviour of certain staff. Further, there was a revolving door of personnel, some of whom left of their own volition while others were the subject of unfair dismissals overseen by the inept HR Team. Bullying was widespread and blatant. On several occasions I saw people loudly berated (and thus humiliated) in the open plan offices by managers and colleagues. As a consequence of its cultural dysfunction and lack of a safe and collegial work environment, very few projects of an unacceptable quality were delivered in a timely manner at VicTrack. Generally, after months of scheming and infighting, there would be a sudden rush to complete a subpar piece of work. Seek employment elsewhere. Anytime spent working at VicTrack will significantly affect your mental and physical wellbeing.

Pros

If you want to spend your last 10 or 15 years before your retirement without doing much work for a reasonable pay, this is your ideal place to work.

Cons

New ideas to save the cost or improve the network / system / process are devalued. Management bully the employees who challenge their ideas ( which is always to satisfy their 1-Ups. ( I was bullied by my 1-UP for doing a good effort for the company and my 2-UP told me once that he could allocate me to a shi--y work if I don't comply. Fortunately, I left once I finished my projects ) Mishandling of public funds. Eg. GMs & Project directors hire consultants / contractors from their ex-colleague's friend's / associate's firms while internal resources could be used. There is no motivation to reduce the cost. Every new senior staff will wipe out an ongoing project work and team and will re-start the programs with their puppets. Widely advertised current Network Transformation Program is such an example. ( Previous projects , tenders , supplier selection were disrupted and hired new consultants to run the same outcome)
