More Pros and Cons
  1. "Caring, supportive and creative"

Current Employee - Learning Designer in Melbourne

I have been working at Victoria University full-time

    Pros

VU is open to innovative ideas in the learning space. In my team, if you like an area and want to specialise in it, or want to bring something new to the team, there is room and encouragement to do so. Management asks and respects directive guidance and input from our team.

    Cons

Cons to fast roll outs of innovation exist - some are less than perfectly planned, people can feel a lack of support in the expectation to adapt to new modes of delivery. Paid staff training could definitely use a boost - but there are some professional development options in place. Also not a rich university, so some opportunities that exist in greater numbers at other institutions may not be available - for example, regular funding of conference attendance

I worked at Victoria University full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

It encourages training and support in order to do your role. The work is fairly secure, and the conditions are very good, with above-average wages and decent leave conditions.

    Cons

Depending on your role, the work can be very dry with nothing much interesting happening in the environment. There is also a lack of independence of thought and autonomy allowed in certain areas.

I have been working at Victoria University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay is great Good super Easy commute

    Cons

I’m in Victoria University International so can only speak for the environment in this department. Very toxic culture. Staff are fantastic and dedicated, but the senior management are unprofessional. Employees are disrespected and mistreated (there have even been a couple of instances where people were yelled at). No opportunities for professional development, these are mostly available to senior management only. Staff morale is low. There is a general aura of anxiety and stress in the office. The leadership are checked out both mentally and physically, sending emails or asking for help is frowned upon. The pay is great but not worth the emotional distress that you will experience.
