Poorly managed, horrible work-life balance

Pros

It used to be a good place to work. Foosball tournaments, stocked kitchen, lots of laughs, and more. Then they let go of 10% of the employees, hired a bunch of novice managers, and only stock yogurt in the kitchen. Morale is terrible.

Cons

This company used to be fun to work for, but recently the management has gone south. There are PMs on PMs and not enough engineers, and most of the management is engineers who were promoted and lack the know-how to manage properly. There is always a fire to put out and everything is an emergency.

Pros

Stocked kitchen, casual dress, flexible hours, work from home, paid benefits, comp close to city rates

Cons

Culture of do what you're told, regardless of whether it makes sense. Constructive criticism frowned upon, only "yes men" are welcome. No work/life balance. Work is expected to be your life, expected to answer emails at all hours, weekends, vacation, etc Huge nepotism problem. Inept people get promotions and higher bonuses just because they're Israeli. if you're not Israeli, good luck getting anyone to even listen to what you have to say Major layoff recently. You could be outsourced at any moment, with no warning and a pathetic severance. Just introduced summer Fridays and happy hour, where HR floats around asking people to write positive Glassdoor reviews. Dont be fooled, interns. All recent positive reviews are probably HR or sr mgmt trying to boost Glassdoor rating.

Pros

Starting salary is decent. Fully covered health insurance. Possibility of remote work if you have the right manager. Claimed focus on healthcare and finance will give mediocre products a chance to succeed (temporarily).

Cons

Three rounds of layoffs in 3 years. Reactive executives and product managers put out constant fires that they cause rather than driving products forward. No culture aside from forced, fake HR events. Depressing facilities (pray you don't get stuck in the broken elevators or sweat to death when the AC dies). No 401(k) match.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts. Quite frankly, your comments are a reasonable reflection of where we used to be as a business. There has been quite a bit of change in Vidyo, especially at the Executive Management level, in the past 9 months. A new CEO, a new CMO, a new VP Engineering, a sales leader promoted to a global sales role. It's a lot to digest. And we think it's leading us into a direction that addresses your concerns. These lead to a real focus in solving problems in healthcare and financial services. A look at what our customers themselves presented at the Vidyo Healthcare Summit last fall is a good indication of the impact we can deliver. We expect a discipline and process brought in by our new VP Engineering to make a real impact on product quality that does delight our customers. We know change is hard. and we think that correcting the direction our ship is sailing will deliver tremendous results for our customers and for our colleagues.
