Pros

Compensation and benefits including unlimited PTO and work from home

Cons

Where to begin.. the company is underperforming and becoming a drag to Walgreens profitability. RIFs taking place across several departments for the past few months partly due to merger with Summit but clearly also driven by the need to reduce costs. Complete lack of coherent or coordinated operational strategy with no discernible interest from top-level executive/senior leadership to actually define a cohesive strategy to get back on track. Essentially a wild west where each market is doing their own thing and disbanding any semblance of a standard model (i.e. chasing the shiniest object of the week). Technology platform is a complete disaster with zero checks and balances on data quality or monitoring causing disruptions in analytics and operations. "Old guard" is increasingly being pushed out in favor of Summit/external new blood, but many of the key players blocking progress remain in place. The goal of VBC is taking a back seat to the typical concerns of a for-profit enterprise - visit volume, revenue, visit volume, revenue.

Most stressful job of my career, still waiting for the warm and fuzzies

Pros

I work in the Technology side of this company. I can't speak for any of the clinical environments. This is a very challenging place to work. If that's what motivates you, look no further! On top of that, you would have the opportunity to leave your mark on a company that is attempting to re-think the broken American healthcare system. That is why I stay. Do I think the company will actually be able to make a difference? I don't know, I only work here.

Cons

I work in the Technology side of this company. I can't speak for any of the clinical environments. It is challenging to work at VillageMD because the growth is being handled by a bunch of inexperienced, short-sighted directors, VPs, and even the CTO. I cannot stress how incredibly difficult the growth is from an IT perspective because with the way our management likes to get their little fingers into everything we do, it feels like we have more managers, directors, and VPs than the people that actually do the work. Sure we got $1bn in funding from Walgreens, sure as a company we have more than doubled in the last year, but most, if not all, of the Technology teams have shrunk (let that sink in). Not only are people quitting, but for some reason folks have even been fired / laid off. None of us know what the heck is going on because there is little transparency, if any. The stress literally makes me physically ill at times. I have never in all my career ever been so stressed out to the point of seeking medical help until working at VillageMD. Ironically this first experience is while working for a medical health care provider. Conspiracy? Probably not, but the health insurance benefits are only notably better than my previous employment benefits if I choose to go to a Village Medical clinic. Pay and benefits are nothing special. Everyone I've talked to that leaves has offers so good that their managers don't even bother trying to counter. If things don't change soon, I'll probably find myself one of those offers, use up my PTO, and split. I'm taking the time to post this review not because I dislike VillageMD, but because I have slowly escalated my complaints all the way up to the CTO while hearing the same complaints echoed by many others. Nothing has changed. All we hear back is private acknowledgement when what we need is action.

Thank you very much for submitting your review, and for bringing to our attention the concerns you expressed here. Your mental and physical health and wellbeing are of the utmost concern to the VillageMD leadership team, and we are extremely concerned to hear about the stress levels you have been enduring. If you have not already, please allow us to encourage you to use the VillageMD Employee Assistance Program (EAP), through which you can receive free, anonymous, 24/7 counseling and many other resources. The link to that information can be found on Polly, and you can also always reach out to our Talent team for additional support. While the VillageMD environment is extremely fast paced based on our growth, we encourage discussion across the organization so that we can be catching areas for improvement. There is a lot of work left to do in this area, and we appreciate that you are able to use your experience to support this change. Speaking specifically to the technology team, we continue to invest significantly in technology in the form of more full time employees (50+ openings), more manager and technical training (via our new LMS), and the introduction of an enhanced employee / manager feedback toolkit to help with weekly, quarterly and annual planning. In addition to the increased number of listening circles and skip-level meetings, we’ve shared an employee experience survey to learn more broadly and be able to put additional programs in place in support of our employees. Please know that WE HEAR YOU on all of these issues and we are actively making strides to improve every day. In addition to sharing your feedback here, we hope you took some time to provide additional comments on our recent internal employee engagement survey. If you would be willing to share any additional comments, we would be really like to hear more about your experience. You can reach us talent@villagemd.com and we will respond to you directly from there. Thank you again.

Pros

Straightforward mission that you can get behind - making primary care accessible. Clinical staff has best of the intentions and giving their best.

Cons

Village is a mess in terms of resource planning and just general operations of the company is very chaotic. Leadership is arrogant and very political. They lure you in by saying all the right things but barely anything is put in practice. Its very much "Vishal Garg" type culture. Highly recommend to stay away from this toxic company, mental health issues are guaranteed.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We are an organization that is continuing to learn, evolve, and adapt everyday along that journey we have doubled in size in the last 12 months. With that rate of growth, we are not always perfect; however, we strive to always anchor to our VMD Values of Innovation, Get Stuff Done, and most importantly, Build Trust.
