Pros

- Interesting work due to variety of projects and stakeholders - Good work/life balance, depending on the team - Organization is small enough you can get to know and work with most people - New leadership has brought needed strategic direction - Benefits of state employment

Cons

- Very limited opportunities for career advancement within the organization - New hires are paid significantly more than existing staff, creating tension and turnover - "Either with us or against us" mentality in c-suite

Pros

Majority of co-workers are nice. Modern office.

Cons

Waste of state taxpayer dollars. Lack of proper RFP processes driven by top management. Unjustified and wasteful multi-day tours for a large group of VEDP employees around various regions that provide no benefit to Virginia businesses. Analysis paralysis by CEO. McKenzie charts and data are interesting, but leadership is lacking. Communication is not fully transparent. Focus is on state rankings over substantive changes that will benefit Virginians. No value is provided over other existing regional/local groups, Go Virginia, or the Chamber. Employment bias towards millennials. Failing to listen to those with experience in the business world versus life-time government employees and their latch-key contractors is disturbing.
