Pros

Honestly there were no pros just overall bad job.

Cons

Micro managing. Dishonesty about hours. Racism/Discrimination. They let the clients treat you anyway as long as you do the work. Horrible management’ if you could even call it that. Not a very good place to work at all. First off the manager Danielle will lie to you about how many hours you will work. I asked for a full time position she said no problem. I got 1 hour of work the second week I was there. They charge the clients anywhere from 40-50 dollars but only pay their employees 15 dollars not even a living wage. They micromanage everything you do and the management is very racist.

I want to start by expressing my disappointment that your short time with us did not meet your expectations. We value open communication and take all feedback seriously, regardless of its nature. Firstly, I'd like to address some inaccuracies in your review. It's important for candidates to know that we are committed to offering competitive wages, and our starting pay far exceeds $15 per hour. We believe in recognizing the value our team brings to the table and compensating accordingly, and as such, we are the VA company with the highest starting wages, as well as additional benefits like retirement and generous paid time off. It's something that our COO and I are incredibly proud of, that we've built a compensation package that attracts top talent. Regarding client rates, we are very competitive within the industry and charge clients between $36-39/hour in our packages. For the past 17 years, our company has operated with integrity and transparency. Greed has no place in our organization; we believe in compensating our employees fairly while maintaining affordable rates for our clients. Regarding the allegations of micro-management and hours, if there were any issues during your tenure, we regret that they were not brought to our attention to give us the opportunity to fix. Additionally, it's important to clarify that the allocation of work hours is based on the skills and availability of our team members. Those who demonstrate the necessary skills and express a desire for full-time hours are always accommodated accordingly. If you found yourself with limited hours, it is likely related to factors specific to your skill set or availability. Most importantly, I want to address the deeply concerning accusation of racism and discrimination within our company. As an SBA Certified Woman-Owned business, diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of who we are. Discrimination in any form goes against everything we stand for, and every day we make sure to ensure that our workplace is inclusive and welcoming to all. Thank you once again for sharing your feedback. We genuinely wish you all the best in your future endeavors, and we hope that you find a work environment that is the perfect fit for your needs, skill sets and expectations.

Pros

From the website and employment application, this company looks very organized and professional. They give a very detailed description of the virtual assistant position and offer a (seemingly) higher salary than most other virtual assistant positions. They even go so far as to hire you as an employee versus a freelance contractor. They say this is to attract "better quality employees". That is quite an insult to myself and other freelancers. Just because we freelance does not take away from our quality of work or work ethic.

Cons

--Waited almost 3 months from the time I sent my application and resume before I completed all interviews (2). No correspondence during the month between both interviews. --Forced to choose your "shift" hours. Not allowed to work outside of those hours. Not even allowed to respond to client emails "off the clock" although you promise them you will always respond promptly. --Rushed onboarding, out of date material used. --Online application states the position is full time with benefits. Benefits aren't offered unless you're full time and you don't have the option to go full time until 6 months of employment. --Given scripts to use when speaking with clients (email and phone scripts). --Told to record all conversations with clients so they can listen to them later. Weird. Clients do not like to be recorded, trust me. --Everything is micromanaged. They tell you that you should be self motivated and disciplined but then virtually stand over you and control what you do all day. --Forced to keep company chat open during working hours, which is very annoying because it's constantly chirping. --I accepted another (much better) job offer the week after I started with VA USA and they were very cold and rude when I explained that I would not longer be working for them. I started working with them TWO WEEKS earlier than our original agreed start date, because they said they really needed someone to take their new client. I received ONE rude email from them after I explained my situation, then silence. --Worked several hours for them before accepting the other job offer and I was not paid for any of the work I completed. Pretty sure that's illegal.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on Glassdoor. We are not used to receiving one-star reviews so we are not happy that your experience working here has been unsatisfactory. Since you are a current team member at Virtual Assist USA, I would urge you to come to see me, Nicole, or your team lead supervisor to discuss these concerns 1:1. I assure you that we can work toward resolutions. With the recent departure of one of our team members, while I have to keep personnel information confidential I can tell you that we determined that in this situation, we were not the right employer or company for this person. And please know that is okay! We do like to have a positive culture here so a "happy face" isn't something that we see as a drawback. We are known for our open communication and this is something we take seriously. As you know as a current employee, as of Q4-2022 we've broken the team up into smaller pods which are designed to afford every VA the ability to have on-demand and 1:1 support with their leader, and the door is always open for concerns or issues. Additionally, our blog posts are always written with input + research from multiple team members so that we provide the most accurate depiction of our company from the inside. If you have any ideas on what we should start, stop or keep doing, please let us know. We are all ears and always look to input from the team to help shape our processes. Again, I urge you to seek me, Nicole (Chief Operating Officer) or Corri (Chief of Employee Engagement) out personally and we will gladly discuss these and any other concerns you may have. - Danielle
