Visiant, formerly “ikaSystems,” is a miserable place to work
Pros
Holidays and PTO are generous, but unfortunately you’ll likely have to work during them plus weekends so you don’t exactly get to take advantage
Cons
- Insane hours: prepare to work and be on call around the clock and have regularly scheduled deployments (starting at 6pm-midnight or later) every couple of weeks. You will not get compensated in time nor money, let alone praise. This is just part of the job (although it is not in the description) - Complete lack of common sense: code is sloppy without standards or documentation of any kind. New code is bandaid fix on top of bandaid fix. All logic is in thousands of lines of SQL stored procedures. No signs of updating to keep up with industry. - Bad work environment: favoritism and politics are definitely a thing (many original employees are longtime friends and even family members of one another). “Old Ika” members take care of one another and “protect” one another. New people are left to fend for themselves to preserve job security of older members, so there is a high turnover rate especially among new people. There were numerous stories of a work culture that allowed blatant sexism towards new females who joined various teams throughout the company. - Management is shady: most of management moved here from the same company (IBM) and appears to cut one another deals. We rebranded from “ikaSystems” to “Visiant” after the acquisition; the common consensus was that ikaSystems had such a poor reputation we needed to start again. In reality, the people and environment are exactly the same, just with a new sign on the building (check out “ikaSystems” Glassdoor reviews for more reviews and history).
