Pros

If you like to have a real world experience, this is the great opportunity!

Cons

You'll need to figure things out on your own, and most of the time people are too busy to give you much attention.

Pros

Decent pay, some hardworking coworkers

Cons

Disorganized and out of touch leadership, little transparency from executive team, incredibly stressful environment, overly high performance standards for employees that does not match the work ethic of the executive team. There is a reason for such high turnover at this organization.

Pros

Can’t beat promoting an amazing state. Sizable budget. Access to knowledgeable partners.

Cons

Out of touch leadership. Politics outweigh performance. Power inappropriately given to people with no subject matter expertise that aren’t open to perspectives other than their own.

Visit California Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that, during your time at Visit California, your overall experience did not match our goal of being one of the best places that you've worked. As an organization, we are committed to maintaining a collaborative, innovative and respectful environment for everyone. Your description of the leadership staff was disheartening, and we are very sorry if you felt your skills and expertise were not utilized during your tenure. That is definitely not the type of environment we are striving for and take any feedback seriously. Most feedback we have received has stated that our leadership has been collaborative, encouraging and hard-working, and former and current staff feel that their voices were heard and their new ideas welcomed, even if the ideas were not implemented. The entire team is expected to keep an open door policy and we know we encourage any staff member from any department to come to their supervisor or above whenever facing a challenge. This is given to each employee during onboarding and throughout their tenure. We appreciate your advice to our management staff. With regard to your feedback on transparency; it is always a goal within our executive leadership to filter communication back down to our teams. It may not always perfect, but we try very hard at it and we are committed. Everything we do in the organization is with a focus on transparency. We are also focused on continuing management training programs that will help our management team grow to be the best leaders they can be, and continue to act with the utmost professional demeanor with all employees, the membership we serve and the public in general. Lastly, we are saddened that you were unable to take the opportunity to discuss these concerns while an employee so that we would have had an opportunity to address the concerns you had. We will consider ways to make it easier for employees to bring concerns to our attention while still employed. Thank you again for providing your feedback. It helps us make Visit California a better place to work. We wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.
