Pros

Benefits are decent Free parking Bonus structure Lots of exposure to networking

Cons

CEO is either micromanaging or completely out of touch - there is no in between Recent change to mandatory MWF in office. Used to be mandated by department with more flexibility. Office is barren, no ability to chat with other departments bc we’re all in cubicles or offices. Recent reminder from CEO only being allowed 30 minutes to “enjoy” lunch Lots of recent turnover in most departments. However. The people that have been here forever don’t leave and won’t. Lots of cushion afforded to those with seniority.

Pros

The tourism and hospitality world is a fun one to be in. Lots of wining and dining and social events. At VisitDallas, you are at the core of the industry, so it exposes you to fun experiences and people. There's also a big emphasis on work-life balance. Most of the people are kind and polite. People who work here stay with the company for years. They have great retention.

Cons

Cut throat politics. Unless you want to "play the game" you could be in the same position for years, despite your talents and hard work. My first impression (which I still feel is true to some extent) is that it's a world of back-stabbing if you intimidate the wrong people. Also...for being a fun industry...the office is uncomfortably quiet...everyone hears you if you have to make a call and people complain if it becomes too loud. Which is strange for hospitality professionals, don't you think?
