Pros

Vista Maria has a great mission that is set to help at-risk youth. The leadership is committed to finding ways to fund additional programs that will wrap around the clients and their families and reach out to more youth that are not being served. The people are great and are dedicated to the "Vista Maria Difference"

Cons

Resources are limited, which means many are stretched thin, juggling many responsibilities. Lower priority items tend to get pushed to the side with higher priority items taken care of. The result is that there is a continual urgency to get things done, because eventually the lower priority items escalate and become critical.

Pros

I really enjoyed the chance to work with the girls. Seeing how they interacted with their parents and siblings during family counseling gave me a lot of information about what was going on within the family. I loved running groups whether they were fun ones, like making Christmas ornaments, or something more serious like anger management.

Cons

The sheer amount of paperwork and the expectation that my direct supervisor had that I would understand immediately what she wanted done. Different counties had different expectations and it was a lot to manage. You could easily work 12 hour days when you first start because you don't know how to fit everything in. It turns out, I was expected to count things like going to court with a youth or going to their psychiatric appointment as being their therapy session for the week. How is that therapy?
