The engineer salaries are significantly under market rate. "Crunch time" is unpredictable and employees are expected to bend their personal schedules to accommodate, sometimes with very short notice. This may also involve traveling to workshops or events on weekends, or it could mean 12 hour work days because of an overly ambitious deadline. PTO / vacation days are sometimes not respected -- you may be contacted on a day off to do some urgent work. I did not feel appreciated nor was I compensated for the additional hours put in. I understand that it's a startup, but many software engineering good practices are not followed. There was also very little in the way of mentorship since there was a lack of experienced engineers.

Always too much work and too little time to do it in. But then nothing difficult can be easy can it so it's worthwhile.
