Years of Loyalty Ended in Cold Redundancy

Pros

Opportunities to work on interesting projects (if applicable, or can leave generic “hands-on experience”). Exposure to industry tools and technologies (like MuleSoft, Salesforce, etc.). Decent learning environment for junior staff.

Cons

No respect for long-term employees — even 20+ years of loyalty is ignored. Redundancy decisions seem abrupt and lacking compassion. Job security is uncertain, especially for senior staff. Company culture appears to value profits over people.

Pros

Good assets in the ground with their modern (albeit still un-automated) fibre network. Special projects division, Fed Gov teams underpin market perception of Vocus being a innovative, credible alternative in the market. They have some very good people who genuinely do make a difference.

Cons

When the exec team have to hit stringent EBITDA to earn yet more kings ransom, the trickle down effect is the most uninspired form of leadership “work harder, increase targets, earn less & be proud of who we are” They’ve lost a lot of good people, the culture of yesteryear is but a distant memory of how it felt to be….I can’t even say valued, more treated with professional courtesy. The demeaning, belittling, aggressive, dehumanising tone is set by none other than a certain HR lead, who seems to revel in generating misery & disdain for anyone who dares challenge a decision. I’ve bore witness to too many good people (as in humans, the people that make you look good) being exited out of the business, not only are the good people, but also very competent, and who’ve busted their butts to be thrown aside like Vocus’ culture, what was once a relatively non-toxic environment has been replaced with contemptuous cliques, and vindictiveness. The ironic thing is half of the Telstra brigade flown in to rescue, transform Vocus have at best generated….I’m actually struggling to find anything noteworthy.

Pros

Token EAP, small discount on company's retail products. An extra week of leave annually but strict conditions must be met to be eligible.

Cons

For the second time in 5 years, the 2025 rem review cycle resulted in no pay increase for all non-ELT employees. Workload is excessive, leading to poor work/life balance. Loyalty means nothing, with two 20+ year employees recently sent packing. Staff who depart are often not replaced, however we have a growing AI team that is apparently developing "something".
