Terrible Product and Even Worse Culture

Pros

Transportation stipend, lunch everyday, and good snack wall. But that's the only real positive here, and if you look through the other reviews it'll also be the only positives that most Vungle employees can honestly cite. However, if this is the bar, note that a free meal and a bus ticket is also what you get when you're released from prison. You also learn what you can put up with and how to operate in a political environment. And the few good, smart people left will naturally gravitate toward each other. These are great connections to make, and when they leave for better pastures, your network will grow, too.

Cons

Vungle is a toxic place to work. I've never been a part of a company as dishonest, disorganized, irrational, and just plain mean and sexist as this one. They don't appreciate These are harsh criticisms and I don't say them lightly. I generally don't write Glassdoor reviews, but my time at Vungle and the actions I witnessed there were atrocious enough to compel me to say something. Staying quiet about this place would be a disservice to anyone considering joining Vungle. Dishonesty is one my biggest issues with Vungle. The leadership and management team seem to have no issue lying when it suits their needs. Vungle's tech is far behind the competition. Yet, from how they speak about their product, you wouldn't know that the reality is far different. This behavior is definitely something I can't condone, both morally and from a business perspective. Vungle is fortunate that the mobile advertising market is flushed with cash right now. $37 billion is being poured into mobile ads alone this year. There's that saying, a rising tide lifts all boats. This is certainly the case this easy market raising up all mobile ad networks, not just Vungle. It's the only reason Vungle is moving a lot of demand, because of the digital ad market's over-saturated spend. AdColony, AppLovin, InMobi, Unity and others still make more revenue so it's hard to judge Vungle's business health. Another example of Vungle's dishonesty, look at the company's reviews on Glassdoor. Whenever a negative review appears, it'll be followed soon after by a flood of positive "reviews" that praise the company and, in turn, bury the negative reviews further down. But I assure you, the criticisms stated by others on Glassdoor aren't unfounded. I've witnessed countless questionable and prejudicial actions during my time at the company. The culture is so toxic and bad that it's almost comical. Imagine the worst instances of incompetence and passive aggressiveness, most people are mean-spirited. It's like they all read this business book that said in order to get ahead, cut everyone else down in public meetings so you look smart and more like a "leader." If you aren't friends with the right people, don't want to go drinking or play basketball, not cool with offensive conversations and jokes, don't like criticizing others for the sake of criticizing them, then you won't get very far at Vungle. I've been in meetings where I've seen two people say the exact same idea, but because the first person wasn't in with the cool kids, they were dismissed, while the second person who was in with them was praised. All of a sudden the idea became strategically viable because it came out of the right mouth. Vungle is a frat/bro culture where favoritism is the norm. If you're friends with the right people and comfortable with knowing that decisions made at all levels will be determined by your social standing, gender, and whether you're really good at talking over everyone else regardless whether your idea is good or bad, then Vungle is the place for you. Everyone else, stay away.

Pros

- Employees are paid on time - Perks and benefits are fairly good - Filled with passionate, motivated individuals who are generally personable and contribute to a pleasant work environment - For big data and marketing, a real opportunity to work with a goldmine of data - Connections made here can be invaluable to future career prospects - Industry still has room to grow, even for smaller players

Cons

Company: - More interested in maintaining public image than acknowledging and handling actual issues - Leadership is a self-reinforcing bubble that pushes its own preconceptions of productivity rather than taking in employee feedback - Ex. to above: new office workplace, while upscale and "representative of the company's bright future" is a significant challenge to employees commuting from outside of the city - Ex. to above: an inflexibly strong stance against remote work, citing the importance of "physical visibility" - Suggestions encouraging employees to write positive reviews "to offset the bad ones on Glassdoor" highlight the company's approach to public image efforts - These issues (and the associated turnover rate) appear to hover around the SF office - other offices have many 3+ year employees, but the SF office has very few Engineering: - Openings in management are invariably external hires rather than internal promotion which recognizes the value of individuals' knowledge base and mastery of the company product - Management hires tend to be connections to existing management, reinforcing a top-down "yes man" engineering org that creates its own bubble impervious to employee feedback - Usually, the above results in teams "onboarding their manager", accentuating resentment - Projects and tasks are prioritized somewhat indiscriminately, due to a lack of sources of actual product knowledge (employees with real product knowledge have long since left due to problems with the aforementioned management) - Morale is low across the board due to a combination of the above - even as new hires come in each week, company veterans seek greener pastures

Worst Company Ever!

Pros

Lots of fun off-sites. Lots of young people who want to spend time with each other. Gaming consoles and arcade games in the office. Phone booths are cool to have private conversations or remote meetings Bungalows are nice to have meetings in or to collaborate on projects. Gym reimbursement policy and the Vungle exchange program. Catered lunches with a food budget on days that it isn't catered.

Cons

The company is full of two faced people. All the way from your colleagues to the executives. They may say something nice to your face about your performance, then go behind your back to your manager and complain that you are not performing well enough. They will fire people for false accusations with no proof. No matter how hard you work or how well your performance reviews are, they do not promote people or give raises. Some of my co-workers who have been here for almost 3 years have not gotten a single raise or promotion. Your performance reviews are based on rumors or only on the mistakes you may have made, while your successes go unnoticed or unmentioned. The managers are all inexperienced and have no clue what they are doing or how to run a team properly. The front door might as well be a revolving door. People are leaving as fast as we are hiring. The company absolutely plays favorites, if someone is underperforming but is someone's favorite they will hire people to help them improve. However, if you aren't and someone doesn't like you, they will do everything in their power to get you fired even if you are a top performer. No matter how well you perform if you make one mistake they will use it against you and fire you. Every department has incompetent people who aren't doing their jobs properly but nothing happens to them because they are someone's favorite. There are people with engineer titles that don't want to code and people who aren't even in your department who try tell leads and managers how to run their teams. They don't allow working from home for most employees, except some employees can work from home once or twice a week or even go on a trip and work remotely without giving notice. The company used to be a cool place and a lot of fun but that all changed after they hired a new HR team last year. The company runs like a high school or fraternity with people constantly gossiping about other coworkers, watching your every move, making up rumors or straight up lies about each other. You can't trust anyone, plus anyone with any real talent has either been fired or left the company. There are a few great people still here, and it is only a matter of time before they leave.
