Absolute disaster

Pros

Some colleagues are genuinely good comms practitioners (the good ones will never stay though)

Cons

Attempting to navigate the company's internal favoritism, office politics, and snitch culture could send any upstanding worker to a mental asylum. Those who can matter far more to management those who do actual good comms work

If you’re considering a career at Wachsman, don’t.

Pros

-If you really love blockchain and crypto but don’t care about job security or anything else, this is the place to be. -I was on the PR side and absolutely LOVED the people I worked with. -Great training program, as almost every one did not have blockchain experience prior to Wachsman -Bagel Mondays in the NYC office are pretty fun. -Health benefits were decent

Cons

I was one of the people laid off in December (wanted to clarify because apparently there was another round of layoffs recently). I wrote this review a while ago, but waited to post it until now, when I was in a better situation, because I wanted to make sure I wasn’t posting out of spite and anger. Yes, I had a bad experience, and I was hoping I was an anomaly. I can now comfortably conclude that, unfortunately, I was not an anomaly. This is just the new norm for this failing company. If you are looking to apply at Wachsman, don’t say you weren’t warned: Where do I begin… -Gross mismanagement of funds by upper management and CEO. These people do not know how to run a business and care more about flashy, new Macbooks and iPhones for employees than actually preserving jobs. Just saying, all you do at Wachsman is send emails. Sending emails does not require any special software exclusively available on a Macbook. -ABSOLUTELY NO JOB SECURITY – If you are just looking for a job for a month or two then this place is great, but do not expect much beyond that. It is a huge gamble working for Wachsman (a lot of this has to do with the volatility of the crypto market but also has to do with irresponsible leaders) -Not a well-rounded PR agency. No real PR strategy, just media relations and pitching. (if you love and want experience only in media relations this could be seen as a plus) -It’s not surprising they lose clients left and right when they do not do a good job tracking and reporting results to clients. -I’ll say it again for my friends in the back! NO JOB SECURITY. After laying off SO many people in December, they had to do another round of layoffs just two months later. -Ironic exactly one month after the December layoffs people were being promoted (which I am sure those people deserved), when other people’s severance that they were promised was late and job postings for the positions that were let go were going up daily on Indeed, Glassdoor, etc. -Third times a charm? No job security. -Also, no 401k match

Career set-back, not worth it

Pros

Intelligent and passionate co-workers (unfortunately held back in a sexist culture rampant with favortism)

Cons

- total lack of transparency from management. An to attempt placate this longtime concern came in the form of a bi-weekly internal newsletter, but it honestly failed to address any real issues such as financial burdens, how the downturn in the crypto market might affect jobs, etc. - major issues swept under the rug (e.g. complaints of misogyny) - rampant favoritism. Preferential treatment given to others on baseless grounds - employees going over manager’s heads to get want they want leads to a toxic culture and becomes very discouraging to those who work hard. Promotions are given on a basis of friendship NOT merit - inability to scale: everything for this company is about image (as a PR firm, this should be no surprise). But as a result of hiring too quickly regardless of the volatility of the crypto market, many were let go from their positions with no warning (see lack of transparency above) - for December layoffs, several severance packages (which were already minimal at 2 weeks pay) were paid out long after they were due. This was especially egregious because the layoffs occurred right before the holidays and left approximately 20% of the NYC employees without enough pay to get through Christmas

Thank you for your feedback. As with any startup environment, we are particularly attuned to the fluctuations that occur when reorganizations like these are in effect — both from a cultural perspective and from a business perspective. We are aware of individual issues that have been raised, and have managed those issues on a case-by-case basis, allowing for full investigations to take place in an effort to rectify the situation.
