Pros

Good Benefits, discount on furniture is nice.

Cons

I write this review in hopes it will open the eyes to those higher up a little more and provide honest feedback for those applying. Let me start by saying that this job started out as a dream job, with so much positivity in the workplace. However, over time I was able to see a culture that I believe should not have been tolerated in a great company. I would like to focus on one of those challenges and that is bullying. I experienced workplace retaliation and was fired after I submitted a complaint to Management and Human Resources about an employee for Verbal Harassment and bullying towards myself as well as others within the company. The complaint also involved a form of racism and religious bias that was presented by the aggressor towards me. The workplace retaliation started right after the complaint was submitted to my supervisor and HR. The response that I received was “this person isn’t going anywhere, so do you still want to be here?” I tried to speak the truth or prove my case and I was silenced. I brought this up to someone higher up of the company who acknowledged the behavior of the person who was doing the bullying and they knew of their behavior not only from the current situation but their previous job. However, they were not willing to take the matter seriously. Instead, it only got worse for me. I now understand why so many employees throughout the company did not feel comfortable going to HR with their concerns. I was not the first person to have experienced this bullying from the same person. And it was well known of the behavior from the person doing the bullying. However, I was the first person to go through the right channels and file a formal complaint. The retaliation that I experienced follows textbook guidelines of a complete reversal of the treatment that I endured before and after the complaint. Per Utah code 34A-6-203, Walker Edison seemed to violate Utah law both for discharging and firing me based on filing a complaint about workplace Harassment. How Human Resources handled this was highly unethical. Hopefully, those at the top can straighten this out and prevent it from happening to any other employee.

Pros

I'm writing this a little over a year after leaving my last review, and a lot has changed. Starting with the pros, I'm fortunate to work with some of the brightest people I've met, and there's zero ego on my team. The benefits are fantastic, and there does seem to be a good emphasis on balance (for now). Walker Edison is going through a tough time right now, but they're still expecting significant growth, which speaks volumes about how strong the company really is. While there are some concerns about the culture, I expect things to go "back to normal" once Walker Edison's problems are fixed. Great community involvement and service.

Cons

Walker Edison recently received an investment from Blackstone. Some consultants were sent in to help Walker Edison tackle some issues and restructure. Let me be clear in saying Walker Edison isn't in any degree of danger, but these are some of the hardest issues the company has faced. In my opinion, this is where you learn a lot about a company's integrity, and unfortunately, I do not feel that Walker Edison's integrity is as strong as I originally thought. Here's why: There has been a tremendous amount of upheaval higher up in the company.. teams have been split without notice, lots of turnover, endless restructuring, bitter relationships in some cases. It can be said that these are growing pains, but it feels more serious than that. A culture has developed of listening to the consultants and not their own people without even a dialogue. Some of the work the consultants has done is much needed, some of it is a colossal waste of time, and some of it is downright wrong at a fundamental mathematical level. It has been very sad to see some of the smartest and most passionate people I've met have their fire go out. It's unclear if it's intentional or if it's a result of people quitting, but this organization is getting flatter by the day. That's concerning to me. Even on larger teams, there's one person between the C level and the entry level. I sincerely hope they figure their culture out because I have a lot of love for this company, but I will not stay if this persists.

Pros

Communication amongst middle management and below is very good. Most of the team members are great to work with.

Cons

After round three of massive layoffs in the past two years this is not somewhere you want to work. You will be constantly afraid for your job. There is no rhyme or reason behind who gets fired and some of the most valuable employees are the ones cut, so doing great work won’t save your job. Most who still work there are looking for new jobs. The upper management is very condescending, borderline bullies and are very untrustworthy. There is a tiny “in-crowd” and no one else matters.
