Pros
Walker has generous PTO. A job at Walker can be a great launching pad for a career in project management. Most companies want experienced project managers. This company will allow you to come in at the ground level, having no real project management experience and work your way up. As many others have said, you will work with a lot of other young professionals.
Cons
Other than the PTO, most of Walker's benefits are lackluster or nonexistent. For example, the 401 match is not the best and there are no maternity/paternity leave benefits. Unfortunately, the substandard pay does not make up for the lack of good benefits. The burn out rate is very high. To top it off, job security at this company is low. They have been continually laying off employees all year. There is no real company culture. Employees pointed this out in an annual employee satisfaction survey and since then execs have been throwing around the word culture, but there is still no company culture to be found. Training is lacking. Most training is self-led and team dependent. Walker boasts of a solid process for running projects but over the last few years, that process has fallen apart and feels more like a free-for-all. This is a toxic work environment and a boys club through and through. Promotions are based on who is friends with who and not on talent or effort. They make a habit of overworking their employees, especially their Client Service employees. There are many conversations held behind closed doors that if addressed directly would cultivate a more efficient work environment. Further, the level gossip is horrendous, especially among the higher levels. Higher level employees will happily tear down lower level employees to other higher ups instead of working to fix whatever it is they find displeasing. Further, the company has some weird fascination with tearing down millennials, which is interesting considering that is a large portion of their workforce. Instead of adapting to the changing workforce and changing market, many suggestions on how the company could improve from both employees and clients were brushed off as "millennial complaints". This landed Walker in some hot water this year as they are continually losing clients and most of their employees are miserable. When you eventually leave, Walker will take it personally. Walker prides themselves on having "retreads" (employees that leave and come back). However, these days, they treat departing employees so poorly, retreads are going to be a thing of the past.
