Pros

A lot of great people have come through here and thrived, while others seem to only get frustrated. Do well and it'll be recognized, usually. The majority of employees are friendly and outgoing, though as with all jobs there are "the cliques" that seem to naturally propagate. There are plenty of positions that open up every few weeks, so you have a lot of opportunity for lateral movement, upper movement not so much.

Cons

Don't do well, and they'll slowly recognize this and ignore you rather than fire you, they seem rather keep a poor performing employee around as long as they cost the company money. Prepare to train yourself, as in most department's training attitude is, "look and learn", while it may work for some, it doesn't work for most. Benefits have been slowly drifting away, 401k is no longer matched, raises seem to shrink about a half of a percent per year, despite the ever increasing economy. There is a lot of "us vs. them" throughout the departments, even though we should all be on the same team. This is a two channel station, and ABC is definitely the neglected stepchild over it's NBC counterpart.

Pros

Your peers become your family because they are in the same boat. Some anchors/reporters were friendly.

Cons

10 hour days (if you’re full time) are draining sh*tty insurance No trust between departments No communication Little to no advancement They hire a lot of idiots, just to fill in the spaces Pay is sh*t, not livable at all Overtime opportunities went away during Covid Handled Covid VERY poorly High-stress, low/no reward They want “yes men” who will do whatever they tell them They’ll fire you if you call out too much - even if you have a medical issue Directors are always on call and not paid for it (which is totally illegal!!) Constant anxiety HR is not helpful AT ALL, don’t even tell them anything, they’ll make it worse. Was told it would take 18 months to train on all positions and it took 4 years due to having horrible supervisors who were out to make others as miserable as they were.

Pros

Reporters, producers, and (to a lessor degree) the directors, get really good, really fast. The workload and the constant pressure from above doesn't allow for anything short of that. The smart ones who put in a few years, and bolt when better opportunities arise, are the ones who truly benefit from working there.

Cons

There is virtually zero trust between the various departments. Open contempt and constant frustration are just parts of the daily job. You see it and hear it from your co-workers every single day. It's quite a unique place. What successes they do achieve and sincerely deserve, happen in spite of and not because of the management there.
