Pros

- Good operational people in the businesses - Strong business that will make money every year

Cons

- Very passive aggressive culture - Micro-management over everything people do - Several of the executive level staff are very political and not out for the best interests of the business; they think they can do everything and are the smartest people in the room, even when they have no experience in something. - The company pushes a culture where you "do the right thing", but I saw many times where employees were punished for doing the right thing. - Not many career advancement opportunities in the corporate area

Pros

The employees who have been there for 30-40 years are great and have a wealth of historical knowledge.

Cons

The owner is dedicated with growing the business, however it is unfortunate that the right people are not coming aboard to move the company forward. Anyone with drive and ambition either leaves or gets pushed out. Many of the new managers coming in have no experience managing people. It's a toxic environment with a lot of gossip, back stabbing and micro management. New hires are bringing in a lot of politics and positioning. I don't believe this is the environment the owner wanted to create with his strategy for growth and prosperity. It was probably a great place to work a few years ago.

Pros

They pay surprisingly well for most corporate support positions. Bonus' and benefits are fine. The owner is a decent and honest man, although he has other interests and is getting more and more removed from the day to day of the company.

Cons

They talk a lot about wanting to hire people with experience from big companies, so they can come in and improve systems and processes and help CTE act like a big company. The reality is that's not what they really want. There are 2-3 people in the company that every decision flows through, and you must have their buy-in. There are a lot of unimpressive people in both managerial and unskilled roles, that are completely resistant to change and progress and who will immediately give you 10 reasons why something won't work and isn't a good idea. CTE ends up running off a lot of the good talent they hire from those big companies because people get frustrated not being able to do what they thought they were hired to do...There's also some real dead weight in the company that's being protected by long tenured managers just because they are liked by someone. If you have ever worked for a family owned business, it is a very different environment than say a Fortune 500 company.
