Pros

If you're a yes person, you can be left alone. There is a toxic culture in upper management to only reward the upper class with their high salaries. The main bulk of the staff are under paid and not rewarded. If needed, they push staff to the point of breaking so that they leave or break. Do not be fooled by false promises.

Cons

Your ideas will be stolen by other people. Good results by a team will be presented to the board as if 1 single senior manager did it but had no input what so ever. False promises will keep you there and the numbers that are presented to the board, are falsified to hide the problems within the system. Forcing staff to lie on surveys otherwise they do not get a bonus. Forcing staff to work in difficult situations.

Thank you for leaving a review about your time at Wesleyan. We are proud of our culture, the people and the fact our colleagues value their colleagues, with ‘peer relationships’ scoring 8.9 out of 10 on our recent employee opinion survey. As a growing business with an exciting transformation agenda we have lots to achieve but we aim to strike a balance and provide support and resources as appropriate. Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We are naturally very disappointed to read your thoughts around bureaucracy, as we have been working incredibly hard to reduce this in recent years. Our salary bands are generally benchmarked against others in the industry, although we do value your feedback and are pleased that you have placed our wider employee benefits as a 'pro' for working here. Thank you. Wesleyan

Pros

Good city centre location, alright for travelling into with public transport links.

Cons

An employee opinion survey is going round, here’s the stuff I can’t write there because I don’t trust them. I’m sick and tired of seeing so many promotional videos this year saying this is an inclusive business. It isn’t. One video said we celebrate all cultural events. We don’t. And now we’ve somehow managed to win an award for diversity, must have been bought. Must be over 50 senior managers in this place, none of them black. In a city like Birmingham, that’s a disgrace. A few Asian, less than five but their numbers are reducing. Had an Asian FD, massively respected and was pushed out by new leadership, no reason given. Another Asian senior person, founder of a diversity network, mysteriously left at short notice this year too. More long serving asian managers left this month. Look around this place, plenty of BAME at lower levels, they just don’t get promoted and I wonder why. We turn up everyday, bang out targets targets targets, that’s all we’re good for, being talked down to and never listened to. Advice to management You’re so out of touch, it’s unbelievable. All white Exec and nearly all white senior managers, in a city as diverse as Birmingham. You have these diversity networks but then do nothing with them, exec don’t get involved. You have these targets for senior representation but getting an external brown board member doesn’t count, he will have nothing to do with running the everyday business and how senior people run this place. You might think you can show it off as proof as diversity, it isn’t. You are out of touch and while we slave away on targets, told to come in often for team meetings, the CEO spends two summers working from Italy. It’s a joke. New leadership came in banging on about transformation and edge. It’s worse than it’s ever been and these guys don’t care. Don’t fall for the mutual stuff, they really don’t care and to think we look after NHS which is probably one of the most diverse organisations in UK, it really is a joke. Lots of people have left, I’ll be joining them soon. The only thing management will care about is that the diversity stats look worse, without actually asking why. Take a look at yourselves would be a start.

Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts. We’re sorry to read your review, and want you to know that we take all comments received seriously. We recognise that we have had changes in our leadership, and we want you to know that we have recruited several diverse leaders recently and are continuing our journey to further achieve a diverse workforce at all grades. We have also introduced our ‘Smarter Ways of Working’ to enable people to work in a way that is agile and meets the need of an individual and Wesleyan. In terms of targets - we are on a journey to positively address underrepresentation, something that is sadly historically recognised in financial services. We’re committed to driving diversity and representation through many avenues, having signed up to many charters and diversity commitments (such as the Women in Finance Charter and 10,000 Black Interns scheme) to ensure we increase all forms of diversity and across Wesleyan Group. The cultural and religious events we celebrate are chosen by our diversity networks. All Wesleyan employees are encouraged to join a diversity network, and to input. We have many more fantastic cultural and religious observances planned for next year. I know that you may not wish to reach out, but if you do want to discuss your concerns in more detail, you can do so confidentially by reaching out to me directly (and confidentially). Thank you. Naheem Ahmed.
