Management and Safety Risks

Pros

Hourly employees are what make West Fraser Great. Capital investment from Corporate shows a drive to be the best in US as they are in Canada.

Cons

Management in local division willing to overlook safety violations when it comes to those violations made by management. Do as I say, not as I do. This approach is a culture killer and does not reflect the models and values set forth by true leadership in Canada. If you confront the leadership at West Fraser's 5-Star OSHA VPP site concerning a safety violation, most likely you will be terminated.

Pros

Good pay, good hours, good atmosphere

Cons

Nothing tied to individual performance. Can be a top performing person and get the same bonus and raises as the bottom performing people

Pros

Pays more than others but, unable to retain anyone with skills or talent.

Cons

Management is out dated, not tech friendly, not remote work friendly, frugal is a company value so you may not get the equipment needed for a quality result. You will be micromanaged and if you're not seen at your desk they assume you're not working. Canadian counterparts won't do anything to change the culture in the US. Bias has been reported in office multiple times with no action. Wouldn't recommend unless you're not trying to grow in your career and just trying to retire in the next 3-5 years.
