Lack of Product to Sell After 8 Years

Pros

Flexitime, work stations provided are above suitable for the roles, very casual dress code, building located in a trendy up market area.

Cons

Lack of top down communication, lack of transparency, lack of strategy, lack of an actual product to sell, values are not supported/shown at management level, lack of accountability, lack of leadership, benefits are not benefits as they are company owned and can be taken away at anytime, lack of certainty in annual increases. A culture is sold to prospective employees but is not lived in office. The company has officially been running for 8 years (in one form or another) and beyond an idea does not have a single fully functional, out of beta testing product to sell. This is due to investors and their funding being hooked on an idea without the company having a clear strategy. This leads to frustration, lack of direction and a lot of working towards nothing to show for it from employees.

Pros

Except the CEO and the management, a nice team with friendly and motivated people.A lot of perks at the office in Cape Town.If you don't directly deal with the CEO, the head of partnerships and the management, you will probably be able to work in peace.

Cons

The level of hypocrisy is high. A lot of incoherent decisions but if you know how the company really works, you just discover that employees are absolutely not treated the same way and some of them get privileged treatment.Sadly, the CEO is not able to separate his private and professional life and he can't manage properly his business, that's why there are bossy and arrogant behaviours from untouchable and spoiled employees, he is aware of the situation but he just ignores the issue. The management is completely disconnected from real life, they behave like careless people who live in an elitist bubble and it really seems that they use their so-called fight against transport inequalities in South Africa to appeal to investors and participate in international events.

Pros

The company puts the problem first, not the solution. What is the problem? Speak to any individual working there and you will a passionate response first hand. The problem the company is tackling is so daunting and it's easy to get lost in the weeds, but the culture is such that everyone is constantly reminded of the problem the team is trying to solve. If anyone is going to crack the informal transport space, its these folks. The engineering team is incredibly strong, you will learn a lot as a developer. But more importantly, you will learn about product and business development. I have learnt more than an MBA's worth being part of this culture and seeing the company navigate through the years. The team asks itself tough questions every day. They are not afraid or re-doing something after realising a flaw in the design. It is so refreshing seeing a company that cares so much about solving a problem that everything else is secondary.

Cons

I worked at WIMT for 6.5 years and have seen it grow first hand. There are a lot of hurt feelings among previous employees (see the negative reviews). Unfortunately due to the nature of a growing startup, some tough decisions had to be made along the way (I was part of some of them). The decisions, while hurtfull, were necessary at the time and unfortunately, some people took it personally. Since then, the company has gone through a major restructuring of management and is much better equipped to forecast such events in the future. I have full faith in the mission, and even more in the team. The culture is like non-other. This is not a typical tech company, there is nothing like this out there.
