Supporting and Encouraging Sales Environment

Pros

The staff was always encouraging and helpful toward each other. Sales and striving to serve the customer is the first priority and everyone pitches in to get the job done. Managers understand the need for family time and vacations.

Cons

There is often a disconnect between upper management and the sales people. There is very little creativity put into displays and merchandising. All displays and end-caps are designed by upper-management will little regard to how they will actually look on display. Many times we were required to display an item that didn't fit on an end-cap and would hang off the side.

Poor Management

Pros

Good benefits, 55% commission, store discount was excellent, made own schedule, liked coworkers outside of salon

Cons

Management does not understand grooming in the slightest. Management repetitively said there was nothing they can do when groomers would offer suggestions of improvement, there was old and non-functioning equipment, and they preferred to hire grooming managers from outside of company instead of promoting from within. There is no supplemental help in the groom shop as far as answering phones, greeting customers, etc. Shop was often unclean, as the hired cleaners did not enter and groomers were more focused on getting in last minute dogs than having a professional shop. 9-10hr shifts, 5 days a week, 30min lunch. They would hire any groomer that applied, no matter how unskilled or unsuited they were for their position - frequent accidents and unsafe environment. No training or assistance for those groomers. Upper management seems very burnt out. Big dogs underpriced.

Pros

You're treated like a person instead of an easily replaceable drone. They are accommodating even for temporary employees (ex. Standing desk option). Employee discount is a huge perk. They want you to advance in the company. The core values align with my own as done the general culture of the company.

Cons

Mt. Angel is where the higher level jobs are, it's in the middle of nowhere - so it's a commute from anywhere. Monthly insurance costs are high (probably more to do with the ACA). Lack of detailed communication on certain issues. No career path planning or mentorship. They are running with a pretty thin crew, the quality is suffering everywhere. The senior management team is a little out of touch.
