Pros
They have good a insurance plan.
Cons
Are looking for a place that values you, has team building, provides flexible work hours and work from home options, well, this is not that place. It is the most toxic place I have ever worked. The last recruiter quit because she said it was too hard to find anyone because Wilson was so ‘rigid’ and didn't offer flexibility, which people are looking for these days. It all starts from the top down. The president has zero social skills. I never had a personal conversation with him during my time there. When he walks by you in the hallway his head is down and won’t say hello back to you. He will only address you in a meeting, about work. A 15-year employee saw him out a dinner and said hello, he said he put his menu up in front of his face and acted like he never saw him. No one likes him, he’s odd. During the pandemic he put out an email saying he’s…”old school” and doesn’t believe in working from home. But he had to, and then got rid of it as soon as he could. They don’t trust their employees to work outside the office. Big brother needs you inside where all the cameras can keep an eye on you. Management frequently walks through the office at 3pm to see who’s left early. They do not trust you. And don’t wear tennis shoes, ever. There is no dress-down Friday. And don’t show your tattoo’s. If you wear shoes with white soles, because after all, they look like tennis shoes, HR will be talking to you. All of this is in the company handbook. Plan on going to lunch with a vendor? Not allowed. Planning a golf outing? Not allowed. Vendor offers you a t-shirt? Nope! No Xmas party, no picnics, no team building, no nothing. Other PM’s call Wilson the ‘company of no fun’. The CEO, President, and Construction manager all live in million-dollar houses. But not you. If you ask for more vacation…forget it. The Construction manager said he was there 10 years before he got more vacation. They pay less than most other contractors too, but they sell the fact they have an ESOP. Which has a 6-year vesting period and when you leave there is a 5-year waiting period followed by a 5-year payout. 10 years to get your money! When I asked the president why they aren’t like other ESOPs in town that pay all your money 1 year after you leave, he said because guys would just blow their money on something stupid. One, none of his business, two, he thinks his workers are all stupid and can’t manage their money. When I asked HR if we could change the ESOP payout, they wrote back and said if I wasn’t happy, they “urged” me to go work for someone else. Wow! You can't even ask about your benefits without being asked to leave. I was gone in a week. I found a better package, better benefits, more holiday & vacation pay and they paid my insurance. So yes, there are better options out there. Plus, the workforce at this company is aging, mostly gray hair workers. And the young guys don’t know much or don’t want to step up. I can’t blame them. When the estimating department bids a bad job that loses money, their solution is to fire the foreman. The place is toxic, I "urge" you to go look somewhere else.
