Pros

You do not have to work very hard to keep your job, and it is almost impossible to get fired. Employees who wash out from large mortgage lenders end up here, taking a big pay cut to avoid the red tape and take nice break from working too hard. If you excel at your job and stand out from the crowd here, you will rewarded with more tasks and responsibilities. You will have to make up for the shortcomings of your fellow co-workers. There is a shortage of talented people at this company, which make it very easy for you to stand out. Employees here are promoted on tenure and attitude, not on ability or experience. Stay with the company long enough, and you can be promoted while more talented employees move on to better opportunities. Top of the line Fitness Center, but very few employees utilizing this amazing benefit. People who take care of their health and appearance typically do not work here.

Cons

Unique culture of apathy and complacency. Employees do not acknowledge one another in passing. Compensation is out of step with the industry. If are lucky enough to negotiate a reasonable compensation, then great, but know that you will be first to go when volume drops and the layoffs are needed. Maybe you will be lucky and get exported to Rosemont for a remarkable pay cut, while job responsibilities increase. I used to love this company, and the idea of what this company was about. I was a very loyal employee, and I believed I would always work here. It fades, you will eventually decide when you are ready to be valued and appreciated.

We are sorry that you struggled so much in your tenure here at Wintrust Mortgage and wish you the best at your new position. Wintrust Mortgage promotes a culture of growth and development, and our employees, past and present, are compensated fairly according to their depth of education, level of knowledge, and growth within the company. This is verified by an outside non-biased consultant who conducts compensation evaluations yearly.

Pros

Great co-workers, health insurance is better than some

Cons

Long hours to get your work done with no overtime pay, zero bonus potential, zero 401K match, lack of communication, lack of training, Mortgage Builder / systems issues weekly, Wintrust aggressively recruits and hires at peak volume and then lays off the moment it slows down - bad for families and the community in general - bad management that they are unable to successfully maneuver the slightest shifts in volume, mega micro management, zero positive feedback. Greed at it's ugliest. Don't ever expect a thank you or even a catered lunch following those record breaking funding emails - that'$ all going into a few pockets and none of them are yours. Business is taking a nosedive as sales runs for the door due to lack of support and uncompetitive rates. If they contact you in March, April, May or June, don't go, unless you want to be job searching in November.

We value our employees and obtain annual benchmarking surveys from industry specific compensation vendors to ensure that our employees are compensated fairly and that pay is commensurate with performance, experience and position. Our overall compensation also takes into account our excellent benefits package provided through Blue Cross Blue Shield, Prudential, and Humana. Other benefits include our Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Health and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts. The 401(k) program is available to all permanent employees that work greater than 20 hours per week on their 1st day of employment and has traditionally included an employer match component. We strongly encourage all employees to participate in our 401(k) program and offer 401(k) training sessions twice a year to educate our employees on this important retirement tool. The mortgage industry is cyclical, with more people buying homes in the spring and summer months. We strive to balance staffing and volume by utilizing a variable staffing model, and advise those temporary employees accordingly. Wintrust Mortgage also believes in employee engagement and recognition. At our Rosemont headquarters, Wintrust’s various business units each take turns hosting a free monthly lunch for our employees. Our employee recognition culminates in our annual awards ceremony held each January. This month we recognized dozens of our outstanding employees, includes sales, operations, and corporate services staff across all of our offices. Customer and employee satisfaction are at the top of our list.

They just don’t Listen

Pros

The staff. They work their tails off to do what’s right.

Cons

Upper Management refuses to listen. People are leaving in mass because they are underpaid and not shown appreciation for the hard work they are doing and the company is hiding the problem under the “unprecedented volume” umbrella instead of under the poor management decisions.
