Pros

I liked my colleagues. They were, for the most part, decent, professional and enthusiastic people.

Cons

Pay was over a month late on more than one occasion. I was laid off and rehired multiple times over the course of my time there, which was, to somewhat understate things, stressful. Communication was problematic throughout my tenure. For anyone thinking of applying here, the people who you will work with day-to-day are professional, decent folk. Administrators and management less so. While much of that may be typical for corporate-land, one should also consider that other much better established, funded and managed Fintech outfits such as Revolut, Cash App and N26 are beginning to implement very similar functionalities, and once they have done so it is difficult to imagine how Wirex might compete given the relative market shares. Frankly, my guess is that they continue to operate because programmers in the country they outsource to are well compensated relative to cost of living, and most of the experienced people in the UK probably have equity and hope it gets bought before it goes under. If you just need any work, by all means work at Wirex. If you have options, run.

Pros

You can do whatever you want and pretty much get away with it since the leadership has no clue A few talented and motivated team members who work extra hard to make up for the clueless leaders Unlimited budget due to big pocket investors

Cons

Leadership is a joke, lacks focus and logic No planning, no strategy, no vision, just airheads. Don’t care about customers Unethical falsification All ego with zero humility Waste of time and energy Quantity over quality

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are really sorry you feel this way. We have worked hard in the last few months to improve our structure, planning, strategy and vision, as well as creating a more cohesive team and bringing more value for our customers. We’ve done this by hiring additional people in teams like Product, Marketing and Content. We’ve also overhauled our Management Team Meetings to help us have a more unified approach and vision for Wirex. We know that we still have a long way to go, but we are very excited for the future and all the challenges it brings.

Pros

People - the HR manager is lovely, and a lot of the staff are dedicated, friendly and want to get on and make a success of the company. The people are the best part of the company. Location - nice location in heart of bustling area. Proposition - this comes with a caveat, as they don't seem to know exactly what their positioning is, and they keep changing (or people within the Senior Management Team are arguing for changes of positioning constantly), but they are first to market with an intriguing product that has many viable use cases. I do hope it works as people I worked with invested a lot of time and energy in making it work.

Cons

Strange approach to hiring - I was brought in, hired a team around me, and then someone else was brought in above me and released me (after my probation had passed, I might add). This seems like a waste of money, a waste of time and counter productive, as well as being hugely disruptive for the team I had hired (and also, in a very grey area legally too). Lack of consultation - aside from the HR manager and my direct manager (who are both grossly overworked and under-appreciated), I had no conversations with any member of the SMT around targets, expectations, how I was doing, performance etc. in the time I was there. Lack of respect - I was told to 'be quiet and learn from those with more experience' whilst there. Very unprofessional behaviour towards someone that has their own experience, brings their own ideas to the table and who wasn't hired to just be told what to do. High turnover of staff - their approach to interns, execs and mid level management is baffling, especially the interns. No attempt is made to provide a framework for interns to move into full-time. Disconnect between Kiev and London offices Impulsive approach to making big decisions I also spoke to the CEO once while I was there, and that was just from walking passed him in the hallway.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your feedback. Sorry you feel this way! Being first in the market often requires a lot of tweaking as we refine our operations and find our feet. This meant that when Wirex changed its focus to ‘global’, we had to change the recruitment strategy and start attracting people with global experience to lead our new, global offering. We have already taken action to clarify our probation period process with managers and employees. Our HR and Legal departments have communicated a clearer probation policy to our managers. We are also working on improving and opening channels for internal communication between employees, management and senior leadership. We’re also improving infrastructure to support internal communications which will help bridge the distance between our different locations. As a small team undergoing a period of rapid growth, we know that there are areas we need to improve. As such, we’ve made career development a priority within this year’s People Agenda. We have also recently started to engage with our employees through focus groups, in order to hear everybody’s thoughts about different aspects of working at Wirex. These insights have proved extremely valuable and will result in a clear action plan which will become part of the People Agenda as well.
