Great at pretending to care about people

Pros

Recruited a whole lot of very talented and amazing people, that were a joy to work with over the last two years.

Cons

Wonderbly is the worst kind of company: they *pretend* to care. They stuff you full of free pizza so you dont notice the injustices and the bad management, they give you free cocktails every three months but no way to have a pay rise, or more support when you feel burnt out. They pretend their values are Kind, Courageous and Curious, but there is nothing kind or courageous with the way they treat their employees. Everyone there is disposable, apart from people at the top making the bad decisions and hemorrhaging money on absurd projects. Apparently, they even have enough money to advertise everywhere on the tube and on American TV, but not enough to keep their employees or offer a decent redundancy pay.

Pros

- The people are wonderful - Great location - Decent progression, if you're in specific teams - Team socials were quite frequent

Cons

- Needs a proper HR, not just someone available 3 hours on a Friday - Prioritised the B-Corp, so much went into getting a stamp they can add to the website - At times it's an old boys club - Too much of a drinking culture; drink won't fix the problems that are at the heart of the business - Diversity wasn't really a thing...

Pros

Nice offices with good facilities Good vibes if you drink the Kool-Aid

Cons

Wonderbly pride themselves on doing a lot with a little. Impressive, until all your underpaid junior to mid level employees are burning themselves out trying to achieve goals that constantly change with minimal communication. The CEO is a liability. Feels like there's a clean-up operation every time he opens his mouth in front of his people. Two sides to this: on one hand, he wants to be everyone's buddy and bring the vibes. Yaaaay! Shots! On the other, he shows mockery and open contempt for his staff when they express concerns about (eg) return to office, doomed product launches, health & safety, a documented culture of sexism, and so on. Middle managers (Heads of / VP) are often glorified administrators for their superiors in the C suite. Especially if female. It's been mentioned in other reviews that there is one exec who is a known bully. If you raise a concern about this you're told he's a "necessary evil". How we laugh! If there have ever been consequences for his direct harassment of female and minority ethnic individuals, racist and misogynistic comments and generally sh*tty behaviour, they're a better kept secret than the behaviours themselves. If this business gains the B-Corp accreditation it's been devoting so much time and effort to, it says more about the credibility of B-Corp than it does about Wonderbly.
