Pros

The English staff is nice.

Cons

-your pay will be manipulated. -your bonus will be manipulated. -your work hours will be manipulated. -your apartment will be entered without your consent when you are not there. -2017 Spring semester was a disaster. -four weeks into the semester many teachers had no permanent classrooms -four weeks into the semester students had no textbooks. -many classes had students sitting on desks, class size was ridiculous -not enough teachers for the amount of students, even though 6 teachers were on sabbatical with only 6 hours teaching time a week. -many redundant programs and committees are established with the express goal to suck money out of the government. -favoritism is flagrant. -disrespect towards foreign teachers by the Korean administration is flagrant and open. -foreign teachers are told openly in front of 50 plus other teachers if they are not happy with what ever changes they wish to implement to leave. -every step of the teachers life is monitored by a bluetooth system that you must use or you will be fired. -teachers have to bare the expense of making sure they have a phone that works with their system and the list goes on and on and on and on.

Pros

On paper it looks okay (free housing, decent pay, pension plan), but unless you have absolutely no other options, do not uproot your life to move to a drastically different culture only to be treated as a "ghost" by the university.

Cons

Terrible communication, arrogant management, massive cultural divides, professional isolation, unprofessionalism attitute abounds, enormous lack of English abilities from students to staff to faculty members. Overall a terrible experience.

Pros

They will hire anyone with an MA and a pulse on very short notice, so if you are desperate for a job, you might be grateful for that. Publishing bonuses are okay, but you won't have any time to do research.

Cons

This is a business first and foremost, the title of 'assistant professor' is a joke, and employees are treated like pawns. If you are a competent, professional, and academic-oriented person, it is very likely that you will hate this place. Schedules frequently change without notice - even in the middle of the semester. Foreign staff are kept in a bubble. Turnover is about 50% per year. There is a core of foreign administrators who look after themselves. Long-term faculty tend to be desperate people who have trouble finding work elsewhere. Holidays are a joke compared to other Korean universities. There is a ton of busy-work. Professional development program is a complete waste of time. The morale is terrible. My sincere advice: Keep looking for a job elsewhere.
