Cons
-President Maloney seems genuinely caring and motivated to make Worcester State a great place, but the majority of upper administration is disrespectful to and dismissive of lower-level staff. If you don't have a Ph.D you are not respected or heard. -Creative thinking and debate not welcome. You will be seen as combative and difficult. -Administration is not aware of trends and social progress and runs the university like a corporation. -Lots of hierarchy and red tape that muddles every initiative and makes progress almost impossible. -The finance department rules with an iron fist and doesn't seem to have a problem with ruining relationships with vendors. -Status is valued above everything and you have to stifle your voice and passion if you have any hope of moving up or getting respect. When you complain you are treated like you are ungrateful and unprofessional. -Departments are siloed and University communications are disorganized and inconsistent. -Administration does not take the concerns of lower staff very seriously and expects you to just be grateful that you have a job there. -This environment is very unwelcoming to people of color. They will hire you for diversity purposes alone and if you bring it up to supervisors or HR they will gaslight you and sideline you. The comfort and needs of white employees always come first. - Opportunities to collaborate or interact with other staff of color are extremely limited, making us feel alone and unsupported. -The bottom line at Worcester State seems to be filling dorms and classrooms rather than providing a valuable educational experience in a safe and welcome environment. *This is not a progressive place to work. Creative, outspoken free thinkers should avoid.*
