Performance-Based Company? It's a Myth

Pros

-- Some really sharp and fun people to work with. -- Interesting industry.

Cons

Despite all of the execs and HR's proclamations, this is NOT a performance-based company at all. We just went through the annual evaluation process and it's a total joke. As employees, we all had to compile and submit our own "self-evaluations" by the end of November 2023. Almost four months later, we finally got to hear from our bosses. That time lag in and of itself is annoying and disrespectful. And, because of the company's decree to the leaders that only a small, certain number/percentage of employees can be rated highly -- no matter how well they performed in reality - a large number of workers were arbitrarily downgraded to the mid-range or average "Achieves" category. Total BS. Most of these employees were rated in their mid-year 2023 evaluations as either "Exceeds" or "Exceptional," BTW, and were knocked down for no other reason that the company said it couldn't have a large number of "good" workers, for some bizarre reason. So, if on one hand you claim to be a performance-based company, but then on the other you don't allow your employees to be accurately evaluated, why bother doing reviews at all? Just grade the entire employee population in the "Achieves" category and call it a day.
