Pros

Touch alot of different software and hardware across a range of small and medium size businesses. Working with various clients allows you to build relationships that would be limited in a corporate environment.

Cons

Micro management is a big issue. They expect you to track every minute of your entire day. No work and personal life balance. For example, if you are at a customer site and your shift is ending but there are still tasks to be completed? Well you maybe expected to stay after. You had plans after work? Too bad! Taking any unplanned time off is an issue as it essentially cancels client calls for the day which is frowned upon. Do that enough time and you will be "talked firmly" to. Although you have PTO, its almost like they expect you to plan your sick days in advance! The company provides maybe the first day of the job to do all your training. After that, you are expected to do your own training on your own time. Your yearlly review and raise depends on it Lunches! Well, if you are applying for a field tech job,say good bye to them. Your service calls are 2 per day, 8-12 and 1-5. During that 1 hr between 12-1 you are expected to not only drive to the client but also each your lunch. The client services team tries to schedule your visit no more then 45 minutes in between clients but that the drive between clients is rarely accurate that since traffic is unpredictable. Bonusing? You probably wont unless you are really working some long hours. Management says you get a cut of the profits from all hardware and software sales but they don't tell you how much. They could be marking it up much higher and providing you with a lower percentage. Oh, you took some PTO? your "billable hours" for that much is essentially shot now. Don't expect to bonus that month Ethical issues? Not going to deep into this as it may allow this post to get flagged for removal which is how this company has managed to clean up its image on glassdoor. Lack of communication throughout the company. Techs do not help each other out as most of the time they are to busy themselves to assist other techs. Another example is having your schedule changed and not being advised of it until you show up to the wrong visit because your schedule was changed last minute. Management prefers to hire unskilled techs and throw them into the field and hope that they learn. Some do but most do not This is a big issue and after talking to some of more seasoned employees, this has always been the case. High turn over. Most employees don't make the cut and after a few months. Ways to hasten your departure are implemented shortly after.

Thank you for the review. I was glad to see that you enjoyed the ability to work on a lot of different hardware and software, and the opportunity to work with a variety of businesses in the area and build personal relationships with them. Often people come work for us after they have been in internal/corporate IT and feel they are stuck or not able to work on new projects or systems, or they cannot move their careers forward. It is true that if there is work left to be done at the end of the day, and the client is depending on us to complete some tasks that they can not reschedule for another visit, the tech will need to stay to get the work done. It is true that dependability and reliability are important though people do get sick sometimes and use their PTO. We understand that some people might have more frequent needs and might feel more comfortable in a flex-hour environment. We service our clients onsite between 8am to 5pm weekdays, and each tech has a one week on-call rotation which comes up about every 10 weeks-these days typically having to take a few short support request are look into a system alert. We usually are able to schedule network cutovers on Thursday evenings instead of over the weekend. About a year ago we started a policy where field techs can work from home if they are not at client site and the majority of field techs work from home a few times a week. It is true that studying for certification tests is primarily done on the tech's own time. We will pay for the training material, and the tests that are passed. On a personal note, this is how I completed my own MCSE years ago, completing 9 exams over a period of 1 year, each exam taking about 40 hours of study. My employer paid for all the materials, and I studied on my time. It seemed like a fair deal to me. Getting the certification was very hard, though it lead to a great deal of opportunities and is why we highly encourage and incentivize certifications. We have 4 levels of techs in the company. The most junior techs normally have 2-3 years of experience, all the say up to the most senior techs which have 10-15 years. Many of the senior engineers in the company's history started in a junior capacity and worked their way up accumulating a great deal of experience in the process. It is true that that some people don't work out, though most do and we appreciate the years they give us. We can always do better as a company, and your input helps us improve. Thanks again for the work you did for us, and your service to our company.

Pros

I like the co-workers, I like the clients, I like working alone and the pay is pretty good most of the time.

Cons

The job posting and interview will rave about the great opportunities at Xerillion. You'll be told you can become an equity partner in the business. You'll be told nothing less than a steady work/life balance is acceptable. Then you start work, sign the paper work, then the reality comes out. You'll be told the "Honeymoon is over." You're thrown into the fire with little training, and are expected to bill a lot of hours daily. If you fail to do so, you'll receive a phone call from the superior who isn't afraid to "get tough" with you. If you need to come in late to take your child to school or if you get sick last minute or have an emergency, you'll be told no, and threatened with your job. You'll find yourself questioning your decision to leave your old job for this one. Employees have been fired and had their unemployment claims contested. The clients have little or no respect for the owner of the business. It's really a place to avoid if you can.

Thank you for your feedback as it helps us improve our company. I'm glad you like the co-workers and the clients, and that you feel the pay is good most of the time. I was sorry to see that this is not working out well for you, that you feel you were thrown into the fire. Sometimes I make judgements on skills and ability that puts a tech in a stressful situation where they could use some extra training. Thank you for that input. It is true that punctuality and reliability are extremely important here, though an occasional sick day or running late are not uncommon and understandable. If there is anything we can do to make things better for you, please let me know. Wayne Chapin

Pros

Very nice people including the ownership and management. There is a very nice team feeling here. No drama in the office which is great. They understand and care about employees well being. They want people to be happy and enjoy working. They also try to understand how you would feel in certain situations, which is great. The benefits are amazing.

Cons

Not that much paid time off (PTO). Even in the second year the amount of paid time off (PTO) is below average.

A balance between good pay, good benefits, and time off is very important to us and your input helps us work towards reaching a balance that works best for our team as we service and support our clients.
