Pros
Yahara promotes itself as an inclusive workplace, offering remote, hybrid, and in-person roles.* *In practice, this flexibility seemed largely reserved for Engineering. Other departments, even those with years of positive performance, could suddenly be pressured into returning to the office, with little explanation. The CTO, Bioinformatics Practice Manager, and Director of Engineering are standout leaders. Their drive, passion, and support made working alongside them a genuinely positive experience.
Cons
The Chief Strategy Officer seems to lack a clear vision and instead can be perceived as making decisions at will. This leads to frustration and uncertainty within the team. ~17% of the company was laid off with no warning. We were told to join a sudden "important update" Zoom call. Within minutes of the announcement, our access to Slack, Outlook, and Teams was revoked, and we were told not to return to the office. The layoff included long-term, high-performing employees — some with over a decade of service — suggesting deeper issues in leadership planning and financial management. Leadership communication often felt disconnected from reality. Quarterly meetings would stress the need for "a bigger sales push," but in practice, it seemed like code for "We’re in trouble and you might be next." The carelessness was underscored when a mass layoff email misspelled two employees' names — a small but telling sign of how little attention and respect was given to those impacted.
